Perfect Waste,

This review is from: Perfect Weight America: Change Your Diet. Change Your Life. Change Your World (Hardcover)
At least Jordan Rubin is consistent, he recommends the same products and foods in The Maker's Diet, Restoring your Digestive Health, and all of his Great Physician's Prescription Books. This book adds Fucothin. A $50 product consisting of a metabolism boosting brown seaweed, Fuoxanthin. He adds in this book some metabolic typing, in which he take Wolcott's Metabolic Typing Diet and transforms the protein, mixed, and carb types into meat people (who need protein) and potato people (who need carbs).
The entire book is nothing more than an advertisement for Garden of Life, Rubin's line. Now, don't get me wrong, the diet is perfectly good to follow, and Garden of Life is a top-notch brand. But if you buy the bars, the shakes, the green powder, cod liver oil, cleanse, and Fucothin, you will have made quite an investment. The entire program is sixteen weeks in length. There are some success stories in the book, but bear in mind, these people got all of the products free of charge. I like Jordan Rubin, and The Maker's Diet was a wonderful book; but, this book is nothing more than a moneymaker for him. The useful, and new information in this book could have been put into a pamphlet, seriously. I don't recommend it, there are better diet books out there.

The Perfect Weight America Program is a true god send. I know because I won the 16 week Perfect Weight America Program which started in Delray Beach Florida this past june. I was skeptical at first, but I tried the products, and whole food recomendations and stayed focused and on course. In june 2007 I was weighing 240# 5' 7 1/2 inches tall with a 44" waist , (I am an oil field worker in the Gulf of Mexico), by november 2007 I weighed 190#'s with a 36" waist when i completed the 16 week program. Sure, I could have found excuses ,complained and got off course, but my wife stood by me, and Jordan Rubin and the Biblical Health Institue helped me along the way. Today february 2008, I weigh 192#s with a 34" waist and I am very healthy at 54 years young. I have literally rebuilt my body with whole food and whole food supplements, I am off blood pressure and cholesterol medications. Every day I plan my meals with the lessons learned from the Perfect Weight America Program. Jordan Rubin is a Dedicated Coach who walks the walk and talks the talk. His program does not send you pre-packaged and chemically processed foods to your door step. His program advocates awarness, choosing organic, whole foods, and whole food supplemts along with exercise, and all three of these key items work together. You have to ask your self what is your health worth, Jordan Rubin reminded me, I had taken too many things for granted for too long, and I am grateful to the Biblical Health Institue and Jordan Rubin for being there when I needed them.

I got this book for free with a purchase from The Vitamin Shoppe, and boy am I glad I did not pay for this. Mr. Rubin has put together a hodge-posh of different (and some very complicated) dieting techniques and wrapped it into the slick marketing of "something new and groundbreaking!". Well, nothing in here is neither new nor groundbreaking. Most people are aware that the high carb/junk diet of America is sorely lacking in nutritional value. However, he takes it to the extreme at times, overselling his "all natural" products. Some of the recipes are good, but you can make most them by taking a trip to your local Whole Foods or health food store (and spending quite a bit less money)...rather than investing hundreds of dollars that most Americans simply don't have in this economy in his products. Not to mention, he has never had a weight problem! It's always fun to listen to a person who was underweight and had to GAIN weight due to an illness, wax poetic about how much of a loser and excuse-maker the average overweight American is. Spare me, please. We won't even get started on some of the simply non-practical advice that is offered. City-dwellers often don't have easy access to free-range meats and locally grown veggies. And the FDA has no regulation over "organic" products.
So, on with the solution. Well, some better books are "Feeding The Hungry Heart" by Geneen Roth (if you suffer from binging disorder and need help, as I did in the past), and after reading that, try "The Way To Eat" by David Katz, PhD. Do the good old tried and true excercise more and modify your eating habits...and limit your intake of processed foods and "junk", sodas (including diet sodas), and "fake sugar" (nutrasweet, splenda, etc). You don't need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on Jordan Rubin's supplements when you already have the good common sense that God gave you. Good luck to everyone!

Nothing new here except for Fucoxanthin. Stay away from processed foods, sugars, and so on. I've read the book, generally followed the diet, taken the supplements, and consistently feel much better (energy, focus, mood, vitality and so on) than when I started. We cheat here and there, so the weight hasn't fallen off. The supplements are super and reasonably priced. We're a single income household of 8, so we know about budgeting and food cost. We generally spend about the same as before because the junk costs just as much and doesn't do the jobs of nourishment and replenishment. We have heartily embraced a way to eat better and care for our health. We're on fewer prescriptions, get sick less. This is worth the read. One thing's for sure, nothing will work if we don't really want it to work. This program does work, surely like many others. We've picked a path and are staying on it. We happen to like this one a lot.

I was introduced to this book by a friend whose husband's life was saved after reading The Maker's Diet. She's my friend who eats organic and shops at farmer's markets. Since skimming the book, I've changed my life to do more of the same.
Mr. Rubin is all about taking care of the whole self, including family eating, better habits, eating foods that promote health INSTEAD OF DIETING. While the recipes can be hard to follow if you don't have access to a Whole Foods store nearby, the concept is to understand how to eat, not only eating leafy foods. I'm a fan because of his focus on going "green" and eating organic foods. It's been a helpful guide for me, but I've also given my copy to my parents so that they can follow his principles. I'd encourage readers to try it. It's not so much a diet, but a healthy way of life.

Great source on how to eat sustainably and be "green",

This review is from: Perfect Weight America: Change Your Diet. Change Your Life. Change Your World (Hardcover)
Jordan Rubin is an ambitious guy with a great goal of changing national health for the better. I think this is a fantastic goal, and the idea that his program had success in the unhealthiest city in America--Toledo, Ohio--shows that his product line, health advice, and fitness tips are worth the investment. The best part of the book for me was when Rubin shows you how to eat local whole foods, how to eat sustainably to protect the environment, and the tips on how to incorporate "green" ways into your daily life without much expense. All this was found in the section called "Change Your World." I also thought that the chapter "Think for Your Perfect Weight" was invaluable, especially since most weight problems and food addictions start with how we internally process external situations and stimuli.

This was an excellent book. Our family has changed our diet and the result has changed our life. We are healthier and have a lot more energy. We were eating processed and prepackaged foods and didn't realize the effect it had on our bodies. We are gradually eliminating toxins from our life. We still use the book as a resource even after finished reading. We have joined Perfect Weight America online and the food and receipes are great.

Not good for people on a budget,
This review is from: Perfect Weight America: Change Your Diet. Change Your Life. Change Your World (Hardcover)
I recently purchased Rubin's book expecting some practical and innovative ways to slim down. I was thoroughly disapointed to discover that the vast majority of his methods require the purchase of products that he endorses. Since my husband and I live on a limited budget it is exceedingly difficult for us to shell out the money to purchase the food products and supplements he recommends in his book. I am sure it could offer health benefits for those willing to invest the money required, but for us it's just not happening.

At first I thought this book contained a great deal of helpful information, but it didn't take long to realize it was nothing but a verbose advertisement for his line of products. SHAME ON YOU, MR.RUBIN...

Book is a Rip-Off,

This review is from: Perfect Weight America: Change Your Diet. Change Your Life. Change Your World (Hardcover)
Given Mr. Rubin's civil judgement against him and Garden of Life a couple of years ago, this book's appearance is no surprise - particularly since it is a blatant advertisement for Garden of Life products. While I acknowledge that eating closer to the way nature made it is certainly better for my health, there are aspects of Mr. Rubin's plan in this book which ended up making me feel worse and I believe were detrimental to my health. I am speaking of the section on the 10-day cleanse he advocates 4 times per year. I decided to give this a try about one month ago. According to the testimonials in the book and by Mr. Rubin's own account, after three days I should have noticed an improvement in the way I feel. I followed his spring cleanse plan to the letter. I had weighed myself the day I started the cleanse because according to Mr. Rubin, this plan jumpstarts your weight loss and most people lose several pounds during the cleanse period. I made it through 4 days before realizing I could not continue because not only was I extremely weak and light-headed, my abdomen was tender to the touch and I hadn't had a bowel movement in all of the four days. Prior to starting this, I had no problems in this area. By the fourth day, I was so sick, I decided to stop. It has taken almost a full month in order to get my bowel functioning back to normal. My metabolism completely slowed down during this cleanse so that I lost not 1 pound - I was exactly the same weight as when I began. And the hunger pangs were elevated. The products he advocates for the cleanse did nothing for me except waste $20 and throw off my whole system. As for the rest of the products he advocates, check out the prices of the stuff - for two people to take the supplements he recommends for one month, it costs several hundred dollars. No one can afford this long term unless they are well to do. This is a rip off plain and simple. Mr. Rubin appears to be interested in making up the millions he lost in the judgement against him. Figure it out... if every person who gets this book tries even once the supplements he recommends, then Mr. Rubin and Garden of Life will have no problem making up the lost income and most likely will and have profited from it. Don't buy this book!
