4.0 out of 5 stars Quite Good Pop May 28, 2011
Natalia Kills has seemed to be quite the presence overseas, and it's truly a shame that the US has not been fully exposed to 'Perfectionist', her debut pop album. While she seems to take herself a bit too seriously, especially considering the type of music she is making, Natalia delivers some very solid dance-pop here.

While none of the songs break new ground, Natalia has a commanding presence throughout this disc. It's her music, and she never allows the listener to forget that she's the one singing. While several of the cuts may seem a bit similar, with their percussion-heavy starts, there are enough standouts to offset this.

Some of the best songs include 'Mirrors', a powerfully seductive song that nearly eclipses the entire record. Thankfully there are songs like the threatening 'Break You Hard' and the cringe-worthy titled but surprisingly good 'Love Is a Suicide' that shine all on their own. Natalia takes a break from her dominant woman stance to deliver the beautiful 'Heaven', detailing the loss of someone special. It's a refreshing moment, one that every 'smart' pop album needs to separate itself from the 'dumb' pop albums that permeate the market. 'If I Was God' is another very good song, with its meaty backbeat that allows the song to run nearly 5 minutes without getting old.

Natalia delivers a strong debut, one that signals toward a strong career in her future. Songs like 'Free' and 'Acid Annie' are overshadowed by the other more superior songs. If you're looking for a good electro-pop record to sink into, this is a great choice.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent pop album with a dark twist August 16, 2011
Format:Audio CD|Amazon Verified Purchase
Natalia Kills, labelmate of fellow pop perfectionists Lady Gaga and Robyn, has made quite the name for herself overseas, and with any luck, she'll hit it big here in the United States as well. Perfectionist, her debut album, is, quite simply, one of my favorites to be released this year. Because she does manage to showcase different styles of contemporary pop, I believe a song by song review is appropriate:

Wonderland: A dark pop song, definitely one of the best on the album. Natalia does a good job singing the song and the lyrics are definitely one of the highlights of the cd. 5/5
Free: This is about as cute as she gets. It's fun to sing along to, but overall it's one of the more disposable tracks. The will.i.am feature on the American edition seems superfluous to me, and I prefer the original. 3.5/5
Break You Hard: Another highlight of the album - Natalia strikes a nice balance between dark and fun with this one. One of my faves! 4.5/5
Zombie: A slower song about her "zombie" lover. Not one of my favorites, but the lyrics are neat and it definitely showcases the darker side of her music well. 2.5/5
Love Is A Suicide: The most uptempo song on the cd is great too. The beat is killer and gregorian chants are always cool (though who would've thought to combine the two?). 4.5/5
Mirrors: The lead single is also one of the most immediately striking and notable songs on Perfectionist. Just a generally all around awesome song. I could see this definitely having been a hit if it had been released by someone more known. 5/5.
Acid Annie: My least favorite song from the album. Coming off the high point of "Mirrors" it doesn't measure up to it in virtually all respects.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Artists She is Underrated In U.S. January 16, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
This woman has an amazing voice and a very cool spin on dance pop. She is not like the talent-less and auto-tuned wannabees like Ke$ha or Miley Cyrus. She can sing and her style and outlook is cool. Plus the songs on this album are inventive and addicting. She is really underrated.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very nice surprise. December 27, 2011

I got the cut Wonderland from Amazon for free. And the album was recommended to me several times by Amazon. Then Amazon put the silly thing on sale for $3.99 and I couldn't turn it down. Frankly I would have been happy paying the full price. The songs are fun, catchy, some explicit and are a really pleasant surprise. I never expected it to be that good. I was wrong. If you enjoy Wonderland or listen to other songs on her website then please buy this. She deserves our support.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not a bad first album. December 3, 2011
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
No, Perfectionist isn't Perfect. But it's a very well thought-out, balanced first album with a few excellent hits. There are a few tracks that, the first time around, I had to think, "This song could be improved..." but I still somehow loved the songs. All of them. From the edgy dance hits to the more emotional tracks like, 'If I were God" this album kicks some butt.
