More About the Author

I established my own Web community business in 1994, after completing 28 years of service for a Fortune 500 company in corporate communications, 10 of which as vice president - communication.

In October, 2012, I launched www.cerebral-palsy-career-builders.com. As a Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) with cerebral palsy (CP), I provide an online coaching guide on that website for parents of youngsters seven to 27 years old who have CP.

Between 1999 and 2009, I was responsible for all content of eSight Careers Network (www.esight.org), a free service of Lighthouse International, New York City.

Some of the 1,300 articles I've published on eSight about disability employment issues are resources for Lighthouse International's hardcover book for hiring managers in small companies.

The book, "Perfectly Able: How to Attract and Hire Talented People With Disabilities," was published by AMACOM, a division of the American Management Association, in September 2010.

Between 1997 and 2001, I developed, facilitated and marketed tell-us-your-story.com, a now discontinued website where people with disabilities shared their personal experience stories and which provided a launching pad for eSight, "Perfectly Able" and www.cerebral-palsy-career-builders.com.

I'm also an Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) by the International Association of Business Communicators, San Francisco, Calif.

Companies that avoid hiring disabled workers miss a golden opportunity to improve their workplace. Often, disabled employees prove to be tough-minded problem solvers who have learned resiliency. Appreciative of the chance to work for their employers' trust, employees with disabilities seldom leave their jobs and so help their companies minimize turnover rates. People with disabilities often possess great character and a strong work ethic. In many cases, they have had to strive more than others to achieve their training and education, and so prove to be superior in their chosen fields. This informative, straightforward guide covers all pertinent legal questions about interviewing and hiring disabled people, dispels numerous myths and prejudices, and offers hardheaded practical advice. getAbstract recommends editor Jim Hasse's insights about recruiting and managing this talented but underused labor pool.
