A very valuable tool for anyone in certification, September 6, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Performance-Based Certification : How to Design a Valid, Defensible, and Cost Effective Program (Hardcover)
Judith Hale did a great job mapping out how to build a Certification program. In a step by step process, she guides you the process and points out how to avoid the pitfalls. This book is logical, easy to follow and can be applied to many fields. If you are thinking of certification, I highly recommend this book.

Having worked with certification for a number of years, I have found this to be the best and most comprehensive book on the subject. We use it as a corporate reference book. It is filled with practical advice.

Meaty book for reference or primer, October 16, 2008
This review is from: Performance-Based Certification : How to Design a Valid, Defensible, and Cost Effective Program (Hardcover)
This is an excellent review of certification development and administration. But I feel it needs a "Don't try this at home" warning. Creating standards, criteria, documentation, fair tracking systems, great items and a full curriculum is something best left to those who have prepared for the job for years. Helpful tool for review of work, planning many of the aspects of the project and helping other stakeholders understand the breadth and gravity of what is being developed.

Excellent book, October 24, 2006
This review is from: Performance-Based Certification : How to Design a Valid, Defensible, and Cost Effective Program (Hardcover)
I only read the table of contents and skimmed the first few chapters. Based on that, though, I can say that anyone who is considering leading a certification program should read this book. The checklist at the end of Chapter 1 is itself worth the price of the book. Outlines four simple things that have to happen at the beginning of a good certification program.
