5.0 out of 5 stars Best all around EFI book, August 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Performance Fuel Injection Systems HP1557: How to Design, Build, Modify, and Tune EFI and ECU Systems.Covers Components, Sensors, Fuel and Ignition ... Tips, Aftermarket ECUs, and EFI Convers (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read many EFI books in my time and each seems to have their own little gem to contribute. But I've had to read tons of books to get any reasonable knowledge out of it. This is the first book to hover over general topics but give you specific guidance.

For instance, the wiring section generally goes over each type of wiring connection but gives you specifics on what is good and not good. EG wiring nuts are for house use but will "Walk" off in automotive applications. Also, the quickly give you amp ratings for wire gauges. It makes it very easy to size your wiring accordingly.

At only 150ish pages this book is quite short. But for the price you get things like throttle body sizing and fuel pump sizing formulas conveniently back. I'm still not done with the book but this is already one of the ones I will be keeping on hand for any quick EFI related information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have for Megasquirt Users, August 9, 2010

This review is from: Performance Fuel Injection Systems HP1557: How to Design, Build, Modify, and Tune EFI and ECU Systems.Covers Components, Sensors, Fuel and Ignition ... Tips, Aftermarket ECUs, and EFI Convers (Mass Market Paperback)
This book would have been absolutely invaluable when I was piecing together my Megasquirt setup for my BBC 454. Even though I have it all functioning now, it has still been useful in understanding more of the principles that are going on under the hood so that I can better understand what effects my changes are having. Definitely a rich source of information for the EFI hobbyist. A MUST-HAVE if you are going to build a Megasquirt from the ground-up for an engine.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for "What do I do now?", October 4, 2010

After taking a class on EFI, and thoroughly reading Greg Banish's books, I was still wanting more detail on how to go about tuning - where to start, what to do next...This is exactly what the second half of this book is about. Where the other books cover theory and sensors in great detail, this book is more about the systematic process of tuning your car, especially if it is a MAP-based system. I highly recommend purchasing this book with Greg Banish's books. They are very complimentary.

This book along with the Greg banish books on the same subject will cover all your needs. The guys from diyautotune.com have hit another home run. The book covers everything you need to know and answers some odd questions that you dont feel you need to know until you actually find out that you need to know. Great job guys.

This is what the electronic fuel injection diy'er must have before trying to start an efi setup on his car;
This book covers in depth every hardware component and how to setup everything right , as well as the basics about efi and Troubleshooting the system , from cranking the engine till the last bit of tuning;
Sincerely, a must have for the efi nut
Also , "High performance fuel injection systems" by Greg Banish is great;
I have many books about efi, but i highly recommend reading these 2 books first as i found that they are very important "tools" that purely discuss the subject

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect level of detail, September 8, 2010

Ok -
1) So pick your favorite car magazine.
2) Now try to remember the best 'tech' article that you ever read in that magazine.

If you're like me, you found that 'tech' article fascinating and informative; maybe you couldn't put it down until you finished it, and then you ran to the garage to try out what you learned.

This book is like that - except it's a WHOLE BOOK instead of just some little snippet!

I got the book in the mail the day before I went on a short vacation to the beach. I plopped onto the sand, and read every single page - cover to cover. My wife thought I was nuts to be reading a fuel injection manual instead of frolicking in the surf. The book is THAT good.

It really spells out how all the sensors 'talk' to each other, how to map out what your EFI system should look like for your particular application, what components you can borrow from existing cars, and several other nice tips.

If you know nothing about DIY EFI, this will give you a great overview. If you know think you know everything about DIY EFI, this book might teach you something.

It is NOT a step-by-step instruction manual - but it will provide excellent guidance and clarity to you as you build your system. Most of the info you would need to build your own EFI system is online somewhere, but it can be tough to understand the jargon and the measurements. This book helps keep you on course as you learn.

Well written, well worth the money - even if you never build your own system, it'll help you understand how your car works. It may even help you make a basic repair the next time your factory system breaks down.

Love it.

I have read most of the books out there on EFI and modifications to same.This book really tells you what you need to get into Do-It-Yourself EFI. The authors have "been there" themselves, and it shows in this book. If you are thinking about getting into EFI you need this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, starts basic and ends with some good technical stuff, October 14, 2011

Sure, this will not be the end all book for advanced tuning. But it works great to slowly get you into the technical aspects. The book starts out basic, covering different types of engine management and sensors. Then it ends with a good section on dyno tuning. I found the info about spark tuning the best. I run an engine dyno, and this helped. I hope to now buy something more technical, but for the best all around book I think this is it!
