Editorial Reviews

Bob Woodwards' SNEWS Outdoor Industry Newsletter

The most comprehensive how to mountain bike video ever made. The footage is excellent, the instruction first rate, the whole concept well conceived and executed.

Product Description

Go farther and faster with improved confidence. Fast paced motivational video demonstrates and explains techniques for braking, turning, climbing and descending. Hosted by World Champ and mountain bike legend Ned Overend.

This fast-paced and motivational video helps the viewer understand advanced riding techniques through a series of drills and demonstrations. The instruction is targeted at intermediate recreational riders and beginning racers, but is also appropriate for all levels of recreational riders.

Host and instructor Ned Overend ushered in the modern era of mountain biking with his victory in the first official world championship. He has won six national championships, and countless international competitions.

A methodical approach has been the trademark of Ned's competitive successes, and the trademark of his teaching style. Now riders of all levels can benefit from his superb descriptions of mountain biking technique, as Ned shares his secrets to technical riding.

Instructional sequences were shot in Moab on slickrock, and Porcupine Rim, and in on many of the trails surrounding Durango. Guest instructional appearances include John Tomac, Daryl Price, Greg Herbold, and Juli Furtado.

Technical riding skills are clearly described, from climbs to drop-offs and switchbacks to drifting high speed turns. Body movements are shown and animated, explaining subtle unweights and larger obstacle hops. Specific lessons include improving traction with body English, developing a smooth and powerful pedaling motion, and braking efficiently.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for getting past the beginning stages, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Performance Mountain Biking (DVD)
If you've managed to get comfortable riding your bike on that local trail and you're interested in improving on your handling skills then this will undoubtedly prove to be a great resource. If you've read Ned's book then you'll find the content is similar. I'd recommend one or the other but not both.

I gave it only four stars because I bought it hoping for coverage of more advanced skills. I wish the page at Amazon had been more descriptive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Technical Skills from a Champion Rider, January 4, 2008

I'm not a professional mountain biker. Mostly do it just for fun. I was amazed at the things Ned was able to demonstrate in the video. Many trails, and areas that I used to walk my bike through, I am now able to ride through after practicing a few of the techniques in the video. It's amazing just to watch him execute some of these techniques.

If you are a beginning to intermediate rider you could really benefit from watching this.

I primarily commute with my mountain bike and often use the down Low Glow Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes-Envy(green)Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Single Tube - Envy(green)Down Low Glow Lighting Kit - Two Tubes - Plush(red) It is rugged enought for moutain biking too. I've used it on a few late evening rides.

Related moutain biking dvds worth checking out: Wildflower Mountain Biking for Women & Zinn and the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance. Although the wildflower is primarily made by women for women, i think it has useful tips for men too. The zinn dvd I refer to all the time. I'm not one to spend my life reading manuals so i refer to that one all the time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting started and moving past beginner, July 31, 2007

I got this DVD at the same time as I got Fundamentals Mountain Bike Technique DVD .

Ned's DVD was superior in that it was structured more like a clinic with ideas clearly explained. Nothing too flashy just really good advice and skill teaching.

Extras include trail-side maintenance and setting up your suspension.
