5.0 out of 5 stars Perimeter Wifi dog fence
I was really leary about buying this fence after reading the reviews, but I have had no problems with it. I have a metal garage door and cars in the driveway and they don't cause any problems. I put the base on top of the fridge so it would be up high. It only took 2 days to train our German shorthaired pointer. She is pretty hard headed and never has left, my only...

1.0 out of 5 stars Signal is lost on at least one side of the house no matter where the base is located.
We recently received the Perimeter Wire - Free Wifi Dog Fence and discovered that there are coverage holes on two sides of our house where signal is lost. We cannot provide our dog with enough outdoor space (we're limited to under 60 feet) without losing reception (which prevents the product from working). We might try a competing product as we'd prefer a wireless fence...

I put the base on top of the fridge so it would be up high. It only took 2 days to train our German shorthaired pointer. She is pretty hard headed and never has left, my only concern is what she will do if a rabbit runs out from under our storage shed. Hopefully she won't take off...I have the collar set on 4. I chose this system over the petsafe because it was recommended for dogs over 60 pounds.

The system kept our dog in the yard even when the rabbit from under our shed took off!

1.0 out of 5 stars Does not work as advertised, August 2, 2009

I have tried repeatedly to make this work using many different locations. Have talked with their reps several times and they all say that there is interference so that there are areas that it will not cover. Station goes off when the collar is off the dog and within 10ft of the base station. The receiver is not accurate so that in one spot where we set the perimeter one day it will go off 10 ft before the flag. The next time it will not go off until 25ft past the flag. Also, once it goes off and the dog moves back inside the perimeter it continues to beep. Impossible to train a dog under these conditions. If you have a garage with a metal door or a car in it the WiFi will not pass and the signal will be lost

Save your money. Does not work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Met expectations, September 13, 2009
This review is from: Perimeter® Wire - Free Wifi Dog Fence (Misc.)
After reading all the reviews I could find on this product, I decided to take a chance since my buried Invisible Fence kept shorting out and I refused to spend another $100 to find the latest short for a repair. Armed with the knowledge that garage doors and other large metal objects between the base unit and collar would impede the collar receiver's ability to beep or shock, I found a place in the middle of the 2nd floor (3rd floor above the back yard), set the boundary and checked all around. Boundary seems to be reasonably within range from back yard to front - so far so good.

Collar battery seems to be running down a bit faster than I expected but otherwise, I'm satisfied with the product.

The idea behind this product is great. Performance has been satisfactory, but I live in a very rural area and probably don't have the interference problems that others might encounter. I did have to shorten the range because at maximum range, the base would sometimes lose connection with the collar my dog could get through the invisible fence. The shortened range still gives him plenty of room to run around and it definitely has taught him to stay on the property. I first had the collar set on "beep" only (no shock) and trained him with a leash to run away from the boundary when the beep sounded. After that I let him out on his own and progressively increased the correction level over the next week until he learned what was expected.

It's seems that the performance suffers greatly when the collar battery gets low. I suspect that is a major contributor to the poor reviews. I find that I need to swap the rechargeable battery out almost everyday for good performance. It comes with 2 batteries, but the base will charge 2 at a time, so it might be a good idea to buy an extra battery.

My favorite feature of this is the ability to take it with you. My family and I have a travel trailer and the Perimeter dog fence is the perfect way to keep our dog within our campsite area. I plug the base into an outlet on my travel trailer and set the desired range on the collar. Couldn't be easier.

1.0 out of 5 stars Had such high hopes, but....., June 25, 2009

After waiting for almost 2 months for this product, I finally received it in mid June 2009. I have to say that it was VERY easy to set up and was excited to start using it, but became quickly disillusioned with this product. I have had to call Perimeter Technologies Customer Service (spoke to Lisa who was very nice) 3 times already! 1st - I didn't have any text come up on my screen during the initial set-up. I had to push a reset button on the back (which was not in the instruction book). 2nd - The incessant beeping when "lost connection" or "fence challenged" is almost unbearable. This thing has been unplugged more than it has been plugged in! According to the directions, you should be able to push the select button to turn it off, but many times it just keeps beeping and beeping! 3rd - and the most serious call was made because every time that my dog goes under my bed (which has been from 10 feet to 25 feet from the base station) the system goes into "lost connection mode". Again, the beeping. I can't get it to stop unless I drag my poor dog out from underneath the bed, take the collar off and put the collar right near the base station. Additionally, whenever my dog goes outside on the right side of my house, the base loses complete connection with the transmitter and my dog runs into the neighbor's yard...again more beeping. Lisa told me to try the base unit in different parts of the house -- I did & it didn't work. Then she told me to set alternate boundary areas -- I did & it didn't work. Then she told me that there are "holes" in the radio frequency and that my bedroom must fall into one of these holes. As for the right side of my house, I have a propane tank about 30 feet from the house and she said that this could be interfering with the radio frequency. As with the other reviewer, I had high hopes for this product. I live on a VERY flat, rectangular. 1.5 acre lot and I just can not get this to work for us. Lisa said that even the metal from windows can affect this product! I am giving it to my in-laws to see if they can use it for their dog/yard. If not, I am going to try and return it, but they (perimeter technologies) didn't sound like they were into taking the product back! I guess it's the old in-ground fence for us!

Easy set up- it took all of 20 minutes for my wife and I to have it fully functional. Just make sure you are not setting it up near the fridge, car, TV, swingset, etc. as it will interfere with the WiFi capabilities.
The only one not impressed with it is our 11 month old English Springer Spaniel!
I rate this product 5 stars wholeheartedly!

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money, December 16, 2010
This review is from: Perimeter® Wire - Free Wifi Dog Fence (Misc.)
This is such a piece of crap, do not waste your money on it. We have tried many times to get this thing to work right. This is the biggest waste of money. The dog has just run off again and I am sure will now be pregnant. It may sound like a good idea but for some reason the thing keeps losing reception to the collar. I can't express my dissatisfaction enough. Spend you money on something else that works because this thing sure doesn't.

First, this item shipped from Gulf Coast Pet Supplies, which although not located on the Gulf, did a great job of advising me concerning this product. When it did not work as expected they were more than happy to return my purchase price, so kudos to them. They were very helpful replacing it with a hard wire system.
As for the Wi-Fi,-be careful. It really does have trouble transmitting through solid objects. If I placed the device by a back window it worked in the backyard but not at all in the front and vice-versa. There was nothing b/t the front and back windows except wood and sheetrock. The available information also said it would work better from a higher location, so I placed it upstairs where it did not work at all except directly out the window by which it was located. My house is mostly wood, so I thought it would be perfect for me, but the roof is something called Select Slate, a concrete/composite roofing, and I think this totally blocked transmission. I speculate that if your roof is anything other than thin shingles you will have trouble with this system.
Another thing it does not tell you in the propaganda is how the distance is set. I assumed you could dial in an approximate distance into the transmitter then test the collar by walking around the yard but this method is impossible. You activate the base, then walk the collar out to the distance you wish to set, leave the collar, return to the base and hit an activate button.
I think if your dog was used to a collar this system might work fine if you took him to the park, but for household use it needs some reengineering. This system might be called version 1.0.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best thing I ever bought!, October 19, 2010
This review is from: Perimeter® Wire - Free Wifi Dog Fence (Misc.)
I have a 2 year old Boxer and took 4 days to train her. She's still only on level 3 and won't go anywhere near the boundary line. I think it's great! I just got a new puppy and am so glad I have it.
