This review is from: Period Costume for Stage & Screen: Patterns for Outer Garments : Cloaks, Capes, Stoles and Wadded Mantles (Hardcover)
I purchased this book and its companion, Patterns for Outer Garments II together because I was so pleased with her other Period Costume for Stage & Screen books. I was delighted with the books. This book in particular has an incredible collection of different capes and cloaks that are beautifully fitted. Each different item is detailed and her patterns are easy to understand and follow. The directions for making up the garments assume a moderate level of experience with sewing, yet provide excellent coverage of the specific details of the individual garments.

I never realized how much the curve of the neckline could influence the drape of a cape until I read this book. The different capes and cloaks all have similar characteristics, but each has slightly different details that make them drape and flow differently. The variety of designs and techinques make this a valuable addition to any historical or theatrical costumers library.
