Book Description

August 31, 2007
NB -- This is a book collection on DVD, not CD. You read these books on your Windows or Linux PC or recent Mac (OS X).

This DVD contains the full text of 2514 books, organized for your convenience and easy of use.

Book collections on CD are far less expensive and more convenient than printed books; and book collections on DVD are far less expensive and more convenient than CD.

Our book DVDs have nothing in common with movie DVDs. We use the DVDs to store books -- thousands of books (4.7 Gigabytes worth).

These book DVDs do not work in the kind of video DVD players that you hook up to a television set. Rather they work in the DVD drive in a Windows PC -- and the vast majority of new PCs sold today come with a DVD/CD drive as standard equipment.

Because the complete text of so many books can fit on a single DVD, we are able to keep the price very low.

Our Period DVD includes all the books of the Period Collection (Ancient World, Medieval/Renaissance, 16th Century, 17th Century, 18th Century, and Latin in All Time Periods).

The books on the DVD are in plain text (ASCII) form, with no encryption and no compression. The file names are the same as the book titles (no bizarre abbreviations). The books organized into logical folders/directories (by author or topic), and an html index with links to all the books makes it easy to quickly open the book you want. The DVD includes the text and only the text.

Editorial Reviews

About the Author

Richard Seltzer worked for Digital/Compaq for 19 years, focusing on the Internet for the last five years, most recently as "Internet Evangelist." He is now an independent Internet writer/speaker/consultant, acting as an advocate for full and more effective use of the Internet for business and education. The second edition of his book The AltaVista Search Revolution was recently published by Osborne/McGraw-Hill. (Library Journal called it "indispensable.") He also hosts a weekly chat session on Business on the World Wide Web at Web-Net. In addition, Richard runs his own small publishing business on the Internet (The B&R Samizdat Express), and is the author of novels (The Name of Hero) and children's books (The Lizard of Oz). His acclaimed Web site is frequently cited as an important resource for education and the blind. He is now writing a dummies-style book on online shopping for Macmillan. He calls himself an "Internet evangelist" because of his passion for the subject and his contagious enthusiasm. He lives in Boston with his wife Barbara and four extraordinary children. He can be reached at seltzer@samizdat.com
