5.0 out of 5 stars The best book ever on Peripheral Neuropathy
I have had Peripheral Neuropathy for 12 years, and read many articles and books about this disease. This book is the clearest, most informative.
It covers information on a vast number of different types of neuropathy. I relished reading about all the possible causes and have a much clearer picture of the disease. Kudos to Dr. Latov for making this a patient...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as much info as I had expected
This is a well written book and to some extent it was useful, but most of the information was about the various types of PN's so once you had found your own and read it there was little left to read. The personal stories were interesting. I was looking for something more practical with tips on how to live with a PN and while this book had some it didn't go further than...

5.0 out of 5 stars The best book ever on Peripheral Neuropathy, December 12, 2006
This review is from: Peripheral Neuropathy: When the Numbness, Weakness, and Pain Won't Stop (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
Latov for making this a patient friendly way to get the information about a disease that I know is hard to correctly diagnose. I strongly suggest that everyone with neuropathy and their families read this book to help understand the disease and get the proper diagnosis and treatment.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm sorry if you are suffering from Neuropathy also...., February 3, 2007

This review is from: Peripheral Neuropathy: When the Numbness, Weakness, and Pain Won't Stop (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
I've suffered from a major L5-S1 disc herniation and sciatica, and it now appears to developing into peripheral neuropathy. There are very few books for the lay person available, but this one is outstanding! If you are suffering from sciatica, diabetes, loss of feeling, sharp stabbing muscle pains, or spinal injury.....you must buy this book to understand what may happen to you. And for your spouses and friends, this will make them understand "some" of what you are going through in non-mind numbing way.

This review is from: Peripheral Neuropathy: When the Numbness, Weakness, and Pain Won't Stop (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
The Tucson, AZ Neuropathy Support Group highly reccommends this book. It is clearly written. It is an excellent book giving great insight into this disease. It is all encompassing, concise and direct. There was no sugar coating, nor was it disparing. Many treatments and approaches were analyzed. All our group endorsed it without exception for all neuropathy sufferers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Since reading this book, I don't feel so alone., March 2, 2009

This review is from: Peripheral Neuropathy: When the Numbness, Weakness, and Pain Won't Stop (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
Peripheral neuropathy (PN) is not only physically painful, it is emotionally very painful. I can no longer work at my life's profession, I cannot turn a doorknob, open my mail, even typing this hurts like the dickens. I no longer go many places...I fall a lot. I recently have felt like I am going nuts.
But then this book was recommended to me. I read it immediately upon arrival and had this WOW feeling. I still feel all the pain and isolation, but now I understand more about this disease, especially that I am probably sane because a whole bunch of folks feel exactly like I
do.
This nice book has many useful references and explains PN so I understand it. It gave me some ideas to ask my neurologist
. He had read the book, liked it and was quite open to trying one of the described treatments.
PN patients-this is a good book for you to read. PN caregivers-read it; it will give you some idea of what we are going through.
Thank you for listening.

I bought this book for someone else who is suffering from diabetic neuropathy that is not responding well to treatment. This person said that the book is "excellent" and that it provided clear, comprehensive information that s/he wasn't able to find anywhere else (including internet sites). Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Neuropathy Understandable, August 24, 2007
This review is from: Peripheral Neuropathy: When the Numbness, Weakness, and Pain Won't Stop (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
Peripheral Neuropathy is a concise, inexpensive volume written in plain English. It will be useful to both neuropathy sufferers and their physicians alike.

Dr. Latov's expertise -- as a clinician, teacher, and a founder of The Neuropathy Association(www,neuropathy.org) -- is well-reflected in the text.

When both the doctor and the patient are able to discuss neuropathy knowledgeably as a result of reading this work, the disease will be better understood and managed

5.0 out of 5 stars If you have Peripheral Neuropathy or know someone who does... buy this book!, March 27, 2011

This review is from: Peripheral Neuropathy: When the Numbness, Weakness, and Pain Won't Stop (American Academy of Neurology) (Paperback)
My husband came down with Peripheral Neuropathy shortly after having major surgury and going through a large dose of Prednisone therapy. Who knew that so many things could go wrong as a result! Peripheral Neuropathy was one of the outcomes. And until we found this book, we didn't have much relief or understanding of the issue. This book will not cure you, but it will give you a great resource and material that you can use with your own recovery and discussions with your doctors. Highly recommend the book. We first came across the book from the [...] site which again, I would highly recommend. It is another great resource that will give you many, many resources. By the way, this isn't a large book. It gives you the information you need without being overwhelming. You can read it in just a few doctor visit wait rooms.

You can get help for your pain (or your loved ones). At the very least, you'll have a better understanding of what is going on and how you can live with your condition. You'll also be satisafied that the mystery pains are real.
