5.0 out of 5 stars The Complete Drummer!, November 3, 2005
This review is from: Perk Up (Audio CD)
Shelly Manne was always adding color and texture to any group he was ever in. Never over powering yet always in the lead - a total master of his craft. This LP was cut in 1967 with Conte Candoli, Trumpet, Frank Strozier, Alto & Flute, Mike Wofford, Piano & Bassist Monty Budwig. This was one of CONCORD'S earliest recordings, but not released 'til 1976. It's a nice listen thru-out
and is highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well worth checking out, September 7, 2005
This review is from: Perk Up (Audio CD)
One of my favorite Shelly Manne studio recordings. The music is fresh and all players sound great. The compositions are interesting - from hard, mellow swinging to groovy jazz. It's nice to see Shelly Manne playing "modern" popish grooves on some of the tunes - but in a swinging way.
Shelly's solo ( and his solos in general) on the title track is showing that he was one of the most musical drummers of all time.
Get it, it's refreshing, powerful and sensitive music!
