You can use mixed, or thistle seed in it.

I love the wild birds and spend a lot of money on expensive wild bird blends but mostly what I do is watch the squirrels rob my feeders.

The side seams do not fit together snugly nor do the bottom seams fit against the bottom plate firmly.

I have this feeder placed right outside my window of my ground floor apartment. I originally got it for the cats' entertainment, and am glad I did.

I originally had a feeder bell hanging from the second floor apartment's balcony, but decided it wasn't enough.

I purchased this feeder for the sparrows and used the cheapest bird feed available. After I switched to sunflower seeds only I am now getting sparrows, finches and starlings. The down side being that the perches were not designed for starlings so they have to reach around to one of the other holes to get their food.

Anymore, I can get 5 or so on it at once with two or three hanging out on the chain it hangs from waiting in line.

I really love this little feeder and have had it since December '08. Never once had a problem with squirrels, but it may be because of the way I have it set up.

This is exactly what I was looking for to replace other feeders. Good price and it's versatile - can use either sunflower seeds or turn the caps to use smaller feed.

I ordered this product because of the design. It does not have a bottom bowl. That's what I needed to keep the doves off the feeder. The first feeder arrived. It cracked as soon as I put the seed in it. It was replaced promptly, no problem. The second feeder arrived. I gave it a closer inspection than the first after I put the seed in and the seed just started trickling out the bottom. The workmanship is very poor. The side seams do not fit together snugly nor do the bottom seams fit against the bottom plate firmly. The feeder is hanging outside now but I'm expecting it to not last long. This one is mad in China. I will replace this one very soon.

I live year round in a heavily wooded campground. I love the wild birds and spend a lot of money on expensive wild bird blends but mostly what I do is watch the squirrels rob my feeders. The squirrels are everywhere and no squirrel proof feeder I've tried (and that is several) has had any success in deterring the squirrels. They can defeat any feeder. Or so I thought until I bought this Perky-Pet 3261 a couple weeks ago. The 6 ports on this feeder are adjustable. They can be closed for feeding thistle or left open for larger seeds such as sunflower. The birds can and do easily perch and eat from the open ports. The perches are short but even birds as large as cardinals have no problem feeding. Countless squirrels have climbed the shepherd's hook and tried every way they can think of to get on the cylinder shaped feeder only to be discouraged and climb back down. A couple have jumped to the feeder but with nothing but those short pegs to grasp they can't hold on and fall to the ground. They still try but none has succeeded. For one of the less expensive feeders on the market this one can't be beat for feeding your wild birds and not the squirrels. I highly recommend this feeder and will be ordering a couple more today. Amazon you have a real winner here.

The birds love this feeder. The only downside, is they are eating me out of house and home! I bought two of these and wish I had about 4 more.

Arrived fast. Plastic seam damaged. Length of footrest too small for most birds. Wouldn't purchase this item again. Not a good buy.

So did the squirrels and they busted out the feeding portals and I couldn't get them back in. Otherwise it was great
