These are fine if you're in an area with small birds, no squirrels, and.......no rain. The main problem is the bottom is held in place onto each of the 3 tubes ONLY by two tiny fragile "clips" on only about 2mm in size! As long as there is no weight on the bottom, you're fine. With large birds and huge doves, that gets to be a LOT of weight, many pounds on the bottom...

I bought this particular Opus feeder on Amazon, Seven Years ago. It is amazing that the feeder not only looks great but also still is operating like new. Opus Company is the most cooperative manufacturer and they stand behind all their products.

I called them when an aggressive squirrel ate through the squirrel guard in about six months, only because I had it put it up with too large of rope. Though it was my fault, they replaced the top and sent it out to my house immediately 100% free!

Over the years, I have had questions about birds and feeders and they are quick to answer them. They know the animals that eat out of their products! Opus makes more than Bird Feeders, they make many different garden products and Amazon is their top seller of those goods. That is who they always suggest you shop through Amazon because as they will tell you "Amazon.com has the absolute lowest price on all" these quality products.

I now own seven Opus Feeder and other Opus Garden Products; all are in new shape with heavy use in the adverse weather of Kansas! Yes Dorothy Kansas!

Let us not forget to shop for these at Amazon.com, but go to http://www.opususa.com and look over the entire line of their products and get the best advice on outside birding and other great information.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

These are fine if you're in an area with small birds, no squirrels, and.......no rain. The main problem is the bottom is held in place onto each of the 3 tubes ONLY by two tiny fragile "clips" on only about 2mm in size! As long as there is no weight on the bottom, you're fine. With large birds and huge doves, that gets to be a LOT of weight, many pounds on the bottom of the feeder which it cannot take over time. Yes, squirrels STILL do get on it which make it even worse (they are VERY smart, and even with sunflower seeds put out all over the place, they still INSIST on trying to get a few seeds out of the feeders!) :-)

The other issue which adds to this problem is rain. As soon as bird seed gets wet, it sprouts in a matter of hours and unless you clean the feeder out after EVERY rain, or humid night, the seed will indeed grow and grow on the bottom eventually forcing, "shoving" the bottom FROM the 3 tubes--again due to the undersized poorly designed clips.

This problem could SO EASILY be fixed by simply using either a larger retention/clipping mechanism on the bottom, or "studs" of some kind to which the tubes can connect THROUGH the bottom portion. But, for some reason the manufacturer refuses to do this.

Small birds, no squirrels or AWAY from squirrels, and little rain and low humidity; the feeders are fine.

2.0 out of 5 stars Copper-colored plastic, March 27, 2005
This review is from: Perky-Pet 7103-2 Copper Triple Tube Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
I was expecting this to be a copper bird feeder - I was hoping to match my copper bird bath. Note that this is copper-colored plastic - *not* copper. If you don't mind the plastic, it seems like a nice bird feeder, but I chose to send it back.

1.0 out of 5 stars false advertising - this is a cheap plastic feeder, June 7, 2007

Imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find a PLASTIC contraption rather than the elegant copper one the description and photo lead me to believe. This is an unattractive, overly large feeder with a big brownish plastic dome on top. Yuk.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great feeder, but watch the raccoons, May 25, 2004

Yes, it's a great feeder-it provides a variety of feeds for a variety of birds. We have had an older non-copper (looking) model for two years in two homes and ,up until now, it was industrictible. Yes, we had to position it to keep off the squirrels but the feeder kept a lot of birds (and us) happy. Unfortunately, a group of raccoons recently discovered the feeder and my anti-squirrel measures have not worked. The worst part is that the heavy weight of a raccoon landing on the tray has caused it to break, spilling the entire contents of the feeder on the ground. They too were very happy. The bottom tray and the tabs that attach it to the tubes are plastic, like the rest of the feeder, and will break, given enough force. If you don't have any raccoons, this is still one of the best feeders that I have seen. In fact, I will order another one because I've since discovered a better way to keep the critters off.

1.0 out of 5 stars flimsy construction, July 21, 2006
This review is from: Perky-Pet 7103-2 Copper Triple Tube Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
* I would not recommend this bird feeder. The tubes that hold the food are fragile and the clips that hold the bottom tray to the feeding tubes are weak. I broke one of them the first time I removed the tray to clean the feed tubes.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your money!, May 12, 2007

There us very little copper on this "copper bird feeder". Don't kid yourself by thinking that the roof is made of copper, it is made of plastic. The only copper portions are the accents near the perches.

This is definitely NOT squirrel-proof. The squirrels were able to easily jump up and sit on the bottom of the feeder, and even chewed through the feed holes next to the perches. Once they did that, the feeder is useless as the feed just pours out of the side of the feeder.

If I could give it zero stars, I would. This definitely not worth the money. Keep looking for another feeder.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective Product Received...Twice!, January 29, 2008
This review is from: Perky-Pet 7103-2 Copper Triple Tube Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
Sure looked like a good bird feeder for the price. Too bad I will never know more than that. First feeder I ordered and received was missing parts. Replacement feeder received was in pieces (broken). Reurned that one and now I understand Amazon is returning all remaining inventory to the manufacturer for replacement. Unsure if these problems occurred from manufacturer or after shipment from Amazon, but there was no indication of damage to any of the shipping boxes. You may want to wait a few weeks to order this item and pray the problem has been resolved.

5.0 out of 5 stars Functional Feeder, October 1, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Perky-Pet 7103-2 Copper Triple Tube Bird Feeder (Lawn & Patio)
This is an attractive-looking, well-designed bird feeder; a best buy. Warning: It loads up with a massive amount of seed--a positive--but it'll crash heavily and destructively to the ground unless you secure it well (not fault of feeder--due to my stupidity). I'm buying an exact replacement feeder now, wouldn't consider any other brand.

5.0 out of 5 stars Chris Young backyard wildlife caretaker, July 25, 2002

I read the other reviews for this product so I was made aware of the fact that this feeder is made of plastic & not copper. I wasn't concerned because the feeder is absolutely gorgeous anyway! I had recently purchased other copper feeders & houses & this one fit right in with my decor. It is indestructible but squirrles do get thier share of food from it because the bottom is large enough for them to sit in. I don't mind because I adore squirrels & the birds get plenty of time on it also. I recommend this for anyone who likes the look of copper & if you don't want squirrles to use it be sure & hang it from a place where they can't get to it. The extra large top of this feeder does pose some problems for them but they are persistant & can figure out ways around it.
