Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com Review

This review only needs four words. O'Reilly's Perl compendium is, without a doubt, the ultimate Perl resource.

Containing electronic editions of Perl in a Nutshell, Programming Perl (2nd Edition), Perl Cookbook, Advanced Perl Programming, Learning Perl, and Learning Perl on Win32 Systems, together with a hardbound edition of Perl in a Nutshell, this immaculate collection is a winner in terms of depth and value for the money. If you're looking for something to do with Perl, it will be here somewhere.

Releasing books on CD-ROM is an intelligent move for O'Reilly, since it means that hints, tips, and syntax guidance can be easily found, code snippets pasted straight into working documents, and multiple electronic bookmarks set and referred to within a couple of clicks.

Learning Perl's patient, leveled approach is perfect for the beginner, while the example-packed Perl Cookbook is an essential resource for intermediate users. True techies can cuddle up with Advanced Perl Programmingand the excellent Learning Perl on Win32 Systems. There's something for everyone here.

Besides the complete and unabridged text, the package contains fully hyperlinked, cross-referenced indexes, which are fully searchable, and an overall index that covers all six volumes in one easy-to-use file.

It's difficult to express just how good this package is. For this reviewer, nothing else on the market today can touch it. --Chris Russell, amazon.co.uk --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uh-Hum, That's 35 Stars- 5 ea.+ 5 for price & convenience, November 29, 1999
If you are lucky enough to read this, BUY THE DARN THING. Seriously, five of the best PERL books at one low price with the ease & convenience of a search tool. Absolutely the fastest way to get what you need. I actually copied the CD onto my harddrive so I don't have to worry about taking in and out- it is always there.

Okay, Here's the plan. If you already know some PERL, you should have already added it to your cart. If you don't, go buy "Perl & Cgi: The Visual Quickstart Guide". This will introduce you to the syntax, the architecture, and other basics. Then buy this CD/ Book and go visit several PERL web resources. You will be a PERL expert in no time.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only perl reference purchase necessary!, January 13, 2000

I can't think of a better reference for Perl than this searchable wonderful collection of 6 books. Beginners, intermediate, and advanced users can greatly benefit from this purchase alone. If you prefer hard copies when researching a problem, you can print out sections too, so don't discount this just because it's in electronic format. This package just makes it easier to find what you want to have for hard copy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible to the serious Perl programmer, November 25, 1999

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I own hard copies of all the O'Reilly books, and the hard copy books are good for reading about a topic at length, but when I need to find out how to do something, I reach for this CD. The search feature is awesome. I quickly get a list of articles relevant to the task I need to do.

I can't recommend this CD enough.
