5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Smooth Jazz Selection, July 26, 2007
This review is from: La Perla: Noir (Dig) (Audio CD)
I stumbled onto this CD after hearing a snippet of "Inverno a Capri" on a website. I was HOOKED! This CD blends sophisticated smooth jazz, a little house music mixed with intriguing, hypnotic sounds. Sensual, romantic and playful, great for midnight rendezvous with someone very, very special. Or, a soiree with friends who appreciate expressive music, while looking at the shimmering lights of the city below.

5.0 out of 5 stars Je T'aime, October 17, 2006
This review is from: La Perla: Noir (Dig) (Audio CD)
Mysterious movies, an intoxication by exotic perfumes, nights beneath a full moon lost in a kiss, these are the moods in La Perla: Noir. You almost feel compelled to dress up to listen to this CD, preferably in something by La Perla and perhaps wearing something like La Perla by La Perla perfume.

At times breathy lyrics (Atelier) accompany fast-paced sensuality that sets a sexy mood for many occasions and feels a little dangerous. "Tie Me" is a dreamy escape with smooth jazz appeal while "Toi et Moi" is a giggling phone conversation in French with playful sensuality and romantic dreams. "Ciel bleu" has a deeply sensual appeal while "Caramel" feels sweet and mischievous.

"Late Night Rendezvous" captures late night dining and the sensuous feeling of silk. "Sottovoce" has elements of an old-fashioned movie melting into nostalgia and elegance. It is the most exquisite track on the album and slips you into the night...

4.0 out of 5 stars A nice relief from the typical lounge/electronica, July 12, 2006

I first discovered this album while shopping on La Perla's website for my girlfriend. They had selected tracks playing through the site and I was intrigued... highly. I looked into their accessories area and sure enough they had a sound track. However, it came with a gold pendant. Though I really wanted this album bad, I was not about to pay $70 for a cd.

Finally, they released it in normal form. I immediately put myself on the list.

This album is very smooth. Something to lay down to (especially with a significant other), sit down with a glass of wine, or cruise around town whilst bar hopping. It is very upbeat and fun to listen to. As a huge fan of this type of 'tunage' (I own all of the Verve remixed series, Cafe Roma, Jazz Lounge's, Kid Loco to Kruder & Dorfmeister) I would highly advise you try this out. Sadly, CDNOW.com does not have samples. You may sample this album at www.laperla.com

This cd really comes out with a bang if you have a good sound system.

Danilo Venturi really exceeded my expectations with this exquisite CD. 3 words to describe it: Sophisticated, sensual and classy. This CD is perfect for a romantic evening or just to listen while driving.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Enchanting, another fine stylized, French/Italian approach to lounge., August 2, 2009

This review is from: La Perla: Noir (Dig) (Audio CD)
La Perla: Noir is one of those compilations which stood out in my Lounge library collection. I have not heard of La Perla before nor I have heard the Black Label, but this is one of the underrated lounge albums I've heard & seen. It is all the more lighter, romantic sounding Lounge album that sounds completely `right'.

Very little of my existing lounge solo-artist album/compils library gives a remarkable lasting impression from first track ALL the way to the finish. It is quite rare for me to have found an album that I would actually (and intently) listen through without stopping. My last memorable experience was years ago with KOOP - Islands.

Music-wise, La Perla: Noir is not trying to sound like other big and hyped brands such as Hotel Costes (or Stephane Pompougnac's solo albums), Mezzanine De L'Alcazar or any other releases I've heard under Pschent, METRO, or WAGRAM labels of nu-jazz compilations.

Listening to La Perla: Noir is a fresh change of air. Each track can be so easily followed that it is quite friendly to the ears than just abstract, ignore-able background noise (again, in which so many other Nu-Jazz compils followed). This is a more mature-touched, glossy album for the nu-jazz listeners who are looking for that EASE of flow. Danilo Venturi gets the music completely right in that regard that there is cohesion and creativity without going too tangled up.

On a similar comparison there is Styled In Italy series, which is an attempt to offer a stylized, `Italian' approach to Lounge compilations. I only own the second, and the tonal signature is; although leaning more towards downtempo - does have a similar `narrative' feel to it as La Perla: Noir.

In short, La Perla: Noir is assuredly, sounds more like a special gift. All the tracks; which are inspired by skillful combination of electro-jazz, tango, downtempo, and a (hint!) of deep house - sounds so right on the spot, that it's difficult to miss once you've heard it.

Molto Romantico. Sempre :)!

If you love this album, 5:55 by Charlotte Gainsbourg is sure
to impress. Her breathy vocals are very sexy.
