My 5-year-old son started making designs out of melting beads at school. His teachers encouraged us to make them available at home because this activity improves his fine motor skills and definitely improved his handwriting. After I ordered this big jug of beads, I learned that I could order packs of individual colors -- he uses lots of black and white beads for making rockets and planes. If your child needs a lot of one color, this item may be frustrating because you'll have to sort through it to get enough pieces to make the design. I bought bags of black and white beads from a different web site but would have purchased them at Amazon if they'd been available. As a general supply of beads, however, this is a great item.

My 10 year old daughter is having such fun making Christmas gifts with these beads. She is so thrilled to be able to make neat presents for the family. There are so many that I am sure we will all have many wonderful home made gifts this year:)
