I purchased the Perma-Lok needle for tying turk's head knots from paracord, and I couldn't be happier with how well it has worked. Tying complicated knots like a turk's head, would be a major hassle, if not nearly impossible without a proper lacing needle. The needle is well constructed, but there's not much that can go wrong with a solid piece of brass. When properly attached (by cutting the end at a sharp angle and sealing with a lighter, then screwing into the end of the needle) it's very difficult to pull the cord out by accident, if not pretty much impossible, never had it happen. Making decorative knots has never been easier since purchasing this product, and if you're interested in the hobby, I highly suggest buying one.

I bought this based on a recommendation from another website to use with 550 cord/parachute cord. I had no idea on how to make the cord lock into the needle and there were no instructions. It was very easy and took much less time to actually accomplish then it took to find instructions. Heat up a blade, one you don't care about, slice the end of the 550 cord (or any nylon/synthetic cord) at a 45 degree angle and just screw it into the hole at the open end of the needle while the cord is still hot. Hope that helps. The needle itself is very strong and durable. Great for weaving have cords.

i have tied 2 successful turks head knots without this gadget and it took a lot of time. this needle makes this type of knot so much easer. paracord does require that you cut the end at a sharp angle before heating the end up. being that this needle is brass i wonder how long before the threadsl strip out.

update.i tried what P. Holt suggested in his review of this lacing needle and it works much better.
