4.0 out of 5 stars reasonable overview
Not an in depth documentary, not a how to documentary, but very accessible for most people interested in permaculture. Useful for anyone trying to involve others in permaculture or explaining some aspects of it to them.

The edible landscaping revolution is upon us and many pioneers have safely paved the way for those of us who were doing other things while the "new alternative agriculture" was coming into being.

The edible landscaping revolution is upon us and many pioneers have safely paved the way for those of us who were doing other things while the "new alternative agriculture" was coming into being.

I had watched the video on permaculture in the Dead Sea before seeing this and, well, the Dead Sea tale is a hard act to follow. In the reverse sequence, I think I would still have been somewhat disappointed, but I realize this is personal matter.

I am a vegetarian so I was offended by the animal husbandry that was mixed in with plants. I ended the viewing feeling somewhat disheartened by what felt more utilitarian than inspiring. The team has obviously done a lot to ground permaculture in the U.K. and elsewhere, and there were aspects of community that I felt "worked" enough that the message deserves to be heard, but there was an absence of awesome beauty so I felt that this DVD is for those whose motivation is survival more than environmental trusteeship. Obviously the lines are blurry, but I had watched really a lot of permaculture and Fukuoka videos on youtube.com before seeing this. Giving the DVD a three-star rating thus expresses my feeling that gardening can be a form of art and visual expression as well as effort and hard work for the purpose of eating better.

Finally, and I realize this is completely personal, I cannot reconcile a love of Nature with the exploitation of animals for food so the DVD offended me even though the producers are sincere, dedicated, and knowledgeable.
