I have been suffering with shoulder and neck pain for about three years now. When I saw this book I thought, 'oh finally a cure for me.' Not so. I gave the book two stars because the advice on supplements and drinking water is good. Unfortunately, the cruxt of the book, the 'stretches' were very bad for me. I followed the instructions very carefully and reinjured...

I bought this book after being virtually crippled by a stress in my heel. I researched for weeks trying to figure out how to help this issue I had (I was unable to push off with my right foot when walking). I found this book on google books and began reading about it. I found it interesting because of it's knowledge of fascial tissue (yes fascial not facial). If you have never heard of fascial tissue this book is a must read to understand how pain can be relative. I am 21 years old and have had chronic sore knees for the past 3 years. I use to manage the pain with otc pain medicine like Ibuprofen. I was never happy to live on something like ibuprofen but I couldn't figure out any other options. This book begins by explaining that if my knees hurt chances are its not the knees, but somewhere in my facial line there is tightness causing a pull on my knees which causes pain there. I did some of the quadriceps stretches and BAM no more knee pain! I also have a very sore achy back from working at a desk and lifting weights. The author has a detailed walk thru of back stretches to do to correct that (he even explains which ones to do if you are a desk worker). The found the author to be credible as he is a former body building (IFBB certified) and also a Physical Therapist.

A few reviewers have made comments about the supplements he recommends. If you read about those supplements they are very tolerated by the body. If you are timid about knowing what to buy you can get everything he recommends inside of the Animal Flex Pack
http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Nutrition-Animal-Flex-pckts/dp/B000HNHDRI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1287512912&sr=8-1
Don't be put off from it because it's marketed to body builders, it is just joint supplements, literally everything this book recommends short of fish oil.

I have implemented his water drinking recommendations, and the daily fish oil and that alone has cured most of my constant pains (sore tired back, achy knees, tired feet). Its funny how dehydration can cause so many pains. For me this book was worth hundreds of dollars in the knowledge I gained from it, and the pain it has saved me from. I hope this book becomes more well known because I think it would save so many people from so many daily aches and pains.

Book is priceless for the supplement and dietary recommendations alone. After about 2 weeks muscles began releasing when stretched. Feeling better now than I have in years. Had thought that continually increasing stiffness and pain were inevitable parts of my aging. Fortunately, I was wrong. Looking forward to more stretching and strengthening.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it - but should include trigger point release before the stretches, June 17, 2010
This review is from: The Permanent Pain Cure: The Breakthrough Way to Heal Your Muscle and Joint Pain for Good (PB) (Paperback)
I bought this book because my business is to try to help people feel better from fibromyalgia [...]. I reversed fibromyalgia in my body over the course of 6 years with techniques similar to the ones in this book, and when I saw what this man had to say had to say about fascia, I had to buy this book.

I like the stretches, although many of them seem overly complicated and too aggressive for the beginning stretcher.

I also think that self trigger point therapy before the stretches would greatly enhance them and make injury less likely.

My physical therapist had me do a number of stretches from this book with great results. I finally decided to buy the book for myself. Had it not been for my therapist's recommendation and my own success, I probably would have been skeptical of some of the techniques. But I am a believer now and have recommended it to many friends. I like that my therapist was able to help me learn some of the stretches as it can sometimes be difficult to tell if I'm doing it properly just from the description in the book. I would recommend this to anyone with chronic joint or muscle pain. I find that if I skip a few nights of doing some of the spinal decompression stretches, my pain will start to return.

5.0 out of 5 stars relief from leg pain, April 4, 2011

I had developed so much pain in my left leg that I could barely walk. My doctor said it was referred pain from arthritis in my hip. This didn't seem right to me, and pain killers didn't help much. I looked at our library for books on myofascial pain, and found this book, The Permanent Pain Cure. The author tells about problems with the faschia, the membranes that cover all the muscles, and has a number of exercises to help stretch out places where they are wrinkled. I tried a couple of his stretching exercises for leg pain, and they helped right away.

5.0 out of 5 stars GENIUS, REVOLUTIONARY!!, November 2, 2010

First off, let me begin by telling you I am a Physical Therapist who is familiar with many different stretching methods. I am also very familiar with counterstrain and osteopathic manipulation which I use in my own practice.

I bought this book after hearing some hype about Guy Voyers ELDOA stretching methods. Let me tell you that after 11 years of searching for a method of stretching that really works, I finally found it. This book is worth every penny (And its not even expensive). The stretches are difficult and take some time to master but are well worth the benefit. Believe me, I have tried sooooo many different methods over the years and this is by far the most superior stretching method I have ever came across. The book is completely thourough in describing why you should do certain stretches. It truely allows you be your own therapist!

However, if you do suffer from chronic pain I would highly suggest following his diet and supplement plan. Dont think you can continue to eat high quantities of sugar, pop, processed food, trans fats, remain dehydrated and achieve maximum benefit from this plan. You are only fooling yourself and being your own worst enemy. My opinion is that stretching alone is not enough. Diet and proper hydration should come first, followed by the supplements, then the exercises. Yes, exercise last! Im sure some will disagree but I feel very confident and would be happy to debate with anyone on this.

Also, dont forget the supplements, because I assume most skip this part thinking they are not worth the money!!! FISH OIL, SYSTEMIC ENZYMES, AND JOINT SUPPORT SUPPLEMENTS!!!! BE SURE TO GET YOUR DOSING RIGHT! Two caps of fish oil daily is not enough to affect inflammation. If you tried this book before and did not benefit like you had hoped, you probably did not follow the plan as instructed. This book is revolutionary if you have not read it. It is a must have for anyone suffering with pain. Wouldnt you love to ditch the meds (Which are making you sicker and really not treating the root of your problem) and achieve a true sense of well being naturally. BUY THIS BOOK!!! YOUR WELL BEING DEPENDS ON IT!!

5.0 out of 5 stars More than a pain cure, a way to prevent it too!, September 18, 2009

This review is from: The Permanent Pain Cure: The Breakthrough Way to Heal Your Muscle and Joint Pain for Good (PB) (Paperback)
This book is very well written and the information contained within is priceless.

This is a comprehensive guide to physical well-being, focusing on nutrition and essentially a way to self-administer ART(Active Release Techniques). ART techniques are used worldwide for treating everyone from professional athletes to sedentary people with joint and muscle pain.

All of the info is based in solid science and is well researched. The reviewer Eugenia below would ease her fears by doing a little more research, as the supplements and their effects are all well documented. Just a quick search on PubMed will show that. Additionally, an anti-inflammatory diet has been shown to help relieve other inflammatory diseases such as asthma, diabetes, heart disease, allergies, and more. "The Inflammation Syndrome" by Jack Challem expands on this, providing tons of evidence and more in-depth information on nutrition than provided in this book.

The book is both highly educational and practical. Towards the end there are programs outlined for treating specific areas of pain. Everything from knee, shoulder and lower back to hands and feet are included. Most exercises and stretches include your entire body, so not just those target areas, but your entire body will feel and work better if you follow Ming's advice.

I have used the information in this book to recover from a necessary shoulder surgery well ahead of schedule and also relieve knee pain from an two year old injury. I am a 22 year old athlete involved in contact sports and will continue to use Ming's techniques to stay injury and pain free from now on. I am recommended this book to every athlete I know, and have already started treating my 84 year old grandma's arthritis.

I have read other books on the subject and done tons of research online. This book contains excellent information not available anywhere else, and I highly recommend it.

I started having pretty bad hip and back pain about 18 months ago (I am 45 years old now), no idea why, but it was really debilitating and made me feel like I was 85 years old. Couldn't play basketball anymore or even sit in my desk chair for very long. This book definitely requires you to pay attention to the detail of what he is asking you to do, but I was in so much pain I did it, and I really think it is effective. He wants you to take a whole lot of supplements, and I've been taking everything he suggested for months now. THEN you do his stretching exercises, and when I do, I feel a TON better. I just need to make myself do them more often :) I also started doing Pilates, and went to a "structural integration" (a.k.a. "Rolfing") specialist, and I think it is all helping. Thank goodness, because I needed it. Thank you Ming, great book!

Excellent book - explains why where the pain is not necessarily where the problem is - this checksed with my own experiences - has many good pointers on how to exercise, stretch and drink fluids (to hydrate the facial tissues)keys to being healthy and strong.Points out the interconnection of an alert brain, effective nervous system (neural networks), muscles, and area of pain and misfunctioning of organ etc- - - for all athletes (i.e.everybody) from teens to the "aged".

4.0 out of 5 stars It didn't offer as much help as I would have liked!, April 12, 2011
This review is from: The Permanent Pain Cure: The Breakthrough Way to Heal Your Muscle and Joint Pain for Good (PB) (Paperback)
I like that it had some good stretches (or unique stretches), but for the most part it didn't offer a pain cure. I got more information from stretching books than this book. At first, because the moves were unique, I was getting a lot of helpful information, but I can recall only ONE move that helped and that is the one where you are sitting on the floor with your legs in a Z formation. This move actually does help the hips if they are hurting.
