5.0 out of 5 stars Permanent May Be the Best Song You Hear This Year
Permanent is a late track on David Cook's debut major label record. The album builds with a combination of rock songs and ballads that gradually bring us down to this quiet moment -- when Permanent does its work. 1.0 out of 5 stars Over-priced!
$1.29 is a THIRTY PERCENT increase in the price of music. REFUSE TO PAY for these over-priced songs! There are plenty still available at $0.99. Tell the record companies WE WILL NOT PAY MORE!

Permanent is a late track on David Cook's debut major label record. The album builds with a combination of rock songs and ballads that gradually bring us down to this quiet moment -- when Permanent does its work. This piano/strings/vocal ballad is spare and heartwrenching and powerful. It has become an inspiration to many -- those who care for family and friends who are ill, who have loved ones away in the military, or who just know people going through terribly painful circumstances. The song itself, however, is strong, not sad, at its core -- we are not alone, and love will endure. Please share this song with people who may need it.

David Cook's older brother Adam was diagnosed with brain cancer in his mid-twenties, when David was a teenager. Thus began a 10 year struggle for both brothers, which culminated in the writing and release of the song Permanent in November, 2008, and the death of Adam a few months later in May, 2009. For a time, a live performance (AI finale of Season 8) of the song was available as a charity single, with all proceeds going to brain cancer research.

Many of us who have been touched or inspired by this song have been discussing it online since its release. You may want to view some of these interpretations and stories on Cook's official website. Please join us in celebrating this most amazing song of David.

This song is haunting, especially when you realize he's singing about his brother who has cancer. Very powerful song.
