Customer Questions & Answers

Customer Reviews

This Permatex Dielectric grease works great to seal out dust & dirt.
Furman O. Ashley
Typically, it is used to keep moisture out of electrical connections, like the connection between spark plug wires and the plugs.
Ken Flippin
Although this product worked great, I probably purchased a tube MUCH bigger than I will ever need!

Although usually sold for automobile bulb sockets (for which it works great), this product is actually silicon grease. "Dielectric" means that the silicon grease is an electronic insulator.

Although ordinary automotive grease is very damaging to rubber products, silicon grease is great for ANY rubber products, and for use on ANY electronic connection (other than high-voltage switches). Not only does silicon grease prevent corrosion at electrical contacts, it also improves existing contacts.

THE DREADED BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH
After about 5 years of flawless operation, my wife got a "blue screen of death" on her computer, mentioning a parity-check error. Attempts to restart the computer just brought up the same "blue screen of death"---I could not even get to the minimal Windows configuration for trouble-shooting. I removed the memory boards, cleaned the contacts with isopropyl alcohol, applied a thin layer of silicon grease to the contacts on the memory boards, and reinstalled the memory. Since then (5 years ago as of 2014), the computer has worked perfectly.

As of February 2011 my (ca 10-year-old) computer had been getting progressively flakier for about 5 years---if I opened and closed several demanding applications and/or surfed the web extensively---a lockup or crash was likely---so I routinely rebooted several times a day to avoid the lockups/crashes. Occasionally, even freshly booted up, I could not access certain files or folders (the weird solution was to move the file or folder to some other location---then it could be opened, and moved back if desired). Running registry repair programs and other diagnostics did not help. Completely reformatting the harddrive and reinstalling Windows and all my programs from scratch did not help.

Using a little Permatex Dielectric grease on the spark plug connectors will help remove them later as well as sealing out moisture.

This tube is bigger than you think. I used this item as a filler to get free shipping!. I use it mainly for placing on the car bulbs when i replace them, or for spark plug wires. This stuff works great, and is recommended to have just in case you need to waterproof a connector!

While you may only need a little dab of this stuff at a time, it's much more economical to buy a largish tube like this. It doesn't dry out, is shelf stable for many years.

While you usually think of grease as a lubricant, and it can do that well especially for plastic parts so long as you don't use too much, it's also great as a sealant, a moisture barrier including dressing your rubber automotive trim including around the window seals. Try not to get it on the paint or windows, it takes a TON of detergent to cut through this grease and wash it away.

It's also good for lubricating flashlight o-rings, gaskets on watches, and many other uses where you don't want a petroleum based grease. As for the viscosity it is thicker than petroleum jelly and doesn't thin much if at all by heating in the applications it is intended for, so you don't have to worry about it melting and flowing away.

I use this stuff all the time. My latest job that I used this for was installing a security system at a car wash. I coated the insides and outsides of all the connectors with this grease. It should help prevent moisture from destroying the connectors.I use this stuff liberally on spark plug boots and and in engine compartment connectors. I usually use too much to the point where it squirts out and around the connectors. That way I know that there's plenty in there so moisture can't get in. I coated the connectors on my father's Explorer's alternator with this stuff. I use it to help prevent corrosion on battery terminals. I use it all the time. It's in my tool box on the top tray ready to be used at a moment's notice.

I used to use this in the old days for electrical points and contact sets. A golf cart mechanic told me to get rid of all those battery posts and terminal sprays and use Dielectric Grease to coat the posts and terminals of batteries. It protects from corrosion and doesn't impede the electrical connection as other preventative sprays can do.

This is a HUGE tube. It is a lifetime supply for just a little more than the single use tubes. Well worth the extra money to have a little silicone grease for many other purposes.
