Rawn Clark again goes where very few venture. His book is an attempt to improve/expand on the Quabbalistic masterpiece of Franz Bardons, "The Key to the True Quabbalah". Clark's work is unique and radiates expereience that very few author's can claim. I am glad with this purchase albeit I will be first to admit that I am slowly, digesting this book as it is not an easy read.

With a most elegant economy of words Permutations of the Tree traces the entire "creation" of BE-ing from the "infinitely infinite, non-sequential" undifferentiated Crown into the infinitely finite particles of awareness-substance of Domain. In the tradition of the original Sepher Yetzirah, and not of the more recent second-hand re-inventions of Europe, Rawn introduces us to the Gra Tree of Life which expresses the perfect symmetrical Oneness manifest in every level of existence--rather than a disproportionate imbalance through corrupt fallen-ess or hierarchical dominance. Permutations of the Tree is not just a detached theory but an incredibly accessible "tour guide" for directly experiencing every nuance of the One-Self and its interconnected relationships among its various levels of being--immediately. You do not have to memorize somebody else's anthropomorphic psycho-dramas as in certain pathworkings, nor do you need to memorize Hebrew formulas or layers of symbols. Rawn provides a series of "landmarks" to point you toward the reality of each gate and path through direct perception of it within your own levels of being and thus you become the tree itself. The immediacy of such a simple and direct method may be too much for the complex personal self to bear so be on guard about over-complicating this direct access to your own essential Self.

As a piece of magical literature it is breathtaking how precise and densely meaningful the ideas transmitted in the Permutations of the Tree are. One sentence expresses what most books are still unable to after pages and pages of very baroque, anthropomorphic chatter. If we were living in a different age most of those Western Magic books on Qabalah of the past 150 years would quickly be forgotten and, like the Sepher Yetzirah, Permutations of the Tree would endure for centuries as a seminal text. Perhaps for those to whom it matters, it already is such a text.

I have Sefer Yetzirah: The Book of Creation by Aryeh Kaplan and I find the book to be an essential companion. This book helps one understand this very complex concept by giving practical meditations to integrate the tree into one's personal awareness. Very useful and practical, much better than trying to understand the tree on a purely intellectual basis.

Hello.

Since the author doesn't have a Q&A section for this book on his website, I thought I'd copy and paste a response of his I found on the book's Facebook page, in case like me, you didn't think to look there either. Anyways, he clearly and succinctly addresses the question that came into my mind after reading it: how come in the author's other books (8T and 231Gates), you start at the bottom and work your way up, while in this one you start at the top and work your way down.

In reference to 8T, the author even states on abc.com, "The work of each of the Sephirotic Temples can be matched, Step for Step, with IIH and the same criteria *can* be applied to the 8T. But it all depends upon how thorough you wish to be. To *truly* incorporate the 8T and the 231 Gates, then you *must* be that thorough. It's not necessarily a "quick" process in temporal terms. :) But then *true* initiation is not quick, as you well know."

I thought that perhaps the difference was only in presentation--not in the method of practical working. In other words, that one would still start at the bottom, but for whatever reason he decided to do the Initiatory sequence in one and the Creative sequence in the other, and that one was supposed to apply the appendix to properly use the book with IIH. This is NOT the case. I don't follow or agree with all the thoughts of the asker and have deleted Q2, but here you go:

QUESTIONS:

1) Considering that the more embracing states of consciousness (One self, Chokmah-self, Binah-Self..) are the ones a person's mind have less experience with, wouldn't it make more sense not to do the Creative Sequence, and work instead on the opposite sequence? Wouldn't it be easier to grasp?

Rawn Clark is widely known among students of Franz Bardon for his book "A Bardon Companion" and his assistance to all who wish to explore the Hermetic path. His web site is full of material that is incredibly valuable to everyone working on their initiation.

Here he presents his magnum opus, a distillation of decades of practical experience in Kabbalah, Alchemy, Astrology and Hermetics. This book is very different from most "esoteric" books. It is a hands-on approach without a lot of theory that you need to learn beforehand. An understanding of Hermetic and Kabbalistic terminology and concepts will aid the reader, but it is not an essential prerequisite, as the book and its subject matter will over time reveal itself bit by bit to everyone working sincerely and steadily with it. All you have to do is to learn the basic method of working with the paths (which is explained in the theory section and accessible to everyone regardless of prior experience), after which you can start exploring on your own!

When you have gathered a certain amount of experience with this book I find it effective to add companion meditations. Here I can especially recommend "The Magic of IHVH-ADNI" and "The Self-Healing Archaeous", both of which are available free of charge on Rawn's web site abardoncompanion.com. At some point you might also want to work with Franz Bardon's "Initiation Into Hermetics".
