Book Description

Fate is cruel. Especially when the one you've sworn to love for all eternity, the very soul who changed your destiny, is the last person you should trust.

After more than three hundred years of running, Lucia Dicomano must make a choice.

Forced to take her place as a Pharo of Redemption, the divine slayer needs to master her forgotten powers. Lucia turns to Vittorio, the one vampire she's failed to deliver from eternal damnation. But overcoming smoldering remnants of love, lust and anger aren't their only obstacles.

Samuel, who may know Lucia better than she knows herself, hunts her with a fervor stoked by a thousand years of vengeful hatred. His plan-capture and enslave the weakened Pharo then take control of her elusive power.

Can Lucia trust Vittorio long enough to reclaim her powers? Or will she have no choice but to kill him and battle Samuel alone?

3.0 out of 5 stars Finishing this book was a struggle April 9, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Perpetual Light starts off strong; the first few chapters are well plotted, the writing is fluid and the characters are engaging. Then the first catalyst hits and things really start rolling (for a little while at least). Jordan K Rose's version of vampire slayers is a little more religious than what I'm used to but not so much so that it ended up being over the top. It's also obvious from the get-go that this is a love story; there's a deep connection between Lucia and Vittorio. But then, nothing much happens for almost the rest of the book. By the end I found myself skimming, had lost all desire to read, and was on the verge of giving up all together. For a story that started out with so much promise, I'm sad to say that it just didn't live up to its potential.

The book opens with Lucia, her family and her career. She's a buyer in the fashion business heading out to a work function with her new coworker in tow. I enjoyed Rose's descriptions of the clothing and jewelry, and the back-and-forth between Dicomano and Peter. The tone is light and fun with a splash of fashionista. Then the vampires make their entrance and it looks like readers are in for a wild ride. Unfortunately, this lasts for roughly about five chapters and was my one and only favorite part of the whole book.

Lucia is a "Pharo of Redemption" a.k.a a vampire slayer. Terms like "The Abyss" get tossed around throughout the book and yet they are never really explained. I would have loved to have found out the history of the Pharos, their origins, where their powers come from, etc. I understand that Lucia has no memory of her previous lives and as a result doesn't really know much about her calling but on the flip side, I don't think that keeping readers in the dark as well was the best decision.

In the author words this sums up the suspenseful tale of two powerful forces, one of light Lucia is repeatedly reincarnated to find Vittorio, who was taken by the darkness not simply because she loves him, but more because she's a divine vampire slayer, a Pharo of Redemption, sent to kill him and bring his soul to The Light."

This is a conflicting love/hate relationship romance story fill with intensity, hints of sexual as well as spiritual energies they both have in their existence and will use to defend or outwits their opponents.

The two are torn apart by a deep forbidding darkness force in a flash of a moment, destined to be soul mates, in each reincarnated they meet and start where they first lose each other. Their love is deep, haunting and forever. Except this time when she is reincarnated Lucia was given a warning by her powerful power in the other realm that her destiny cycles were in danger if she did not remember how to call for her powers and kill the darkness that was invading the light of the realms.

The darkness was the vampires who put a contract out on her and her husband may be one of them. She will have to kill them and take them to the light for repentance to be forgiven of their transgressions. The conflict builds with intensity as their love and hate relationship is stormy as the secrets are unveiled and they both feel betrayed. Yet their bond is so connected they swore to forgive and protect each other with their last breaths.

The two characters are willing to sacrifice their own lives for the other to be saved. Definitely a page turner and one of those books you could read in one night. This reader wanted to savor every detail so it took longer but worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, But Frustrating Read May 8, 2012
I'm not sure how i feel about this one. It's a good story, but also frustrating.

What frustrated me was Lucia herself. I get that Lucia was re-incarnated after every death, but I kind of felt she was a bit selfish. And the other thing that frustrated me was the fact that no one wanted to tell her about her past lives. Seriously, give the girl a bone or something ;)

The story plot is a good one. Lucia is a very powerful Pharo, a vampire hunter and she has the task of destroying a very powerful vampire. She must also destroy her husband Vittorio. The thing is she doesn't remember how to use her powers and Vittorio and his vampire family must help her remember it all.

Character development was good as and you basically knew how everyone came into each other lives.

Even though the story was a lil frustrating, I felt the author weaved a wonderful tale here.

On a side note, I would have liked to known more about the Pharo's and their background.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Reminder May 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Perpetual Light is not what I would call a light read, but I will call it a Must Read. The story is a beautiful reminder of never-ending love and how deep emotions can go between two people that deeply care for each other. Lucia reincarnates over and over, during each lifetime she tries to grasp her powers while at the same time not remembering anything from the past lives. Through each instance, the one constant is her memories and dreams of Vittorio her one true love. When she is threatened by the much stronger than her Samuel, Vittorio steps in to help her even though part of her destiny is to kill him. Once you're vested in this story you will be pulled in and won't regret it.
