5.0 out of 5 stars Weckl is the man
I really dig Perp. Motion and like the fusion/latin stuff he's moved more toward. In a way, despite the added horns, some of this new stuff with the enhanced synthesizer presence reminds me of "Hard Wired" with Jay Oliver. The odd time jam (track 6)is cool, not to mention all his soloing over the bass/keyboards vamps throughout the CD. The final track blows...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not his best
I am surprised at how many people like this album compared to his other solo albums as I dont like the 'bitty' jazz feel to this compared to the more rocky feel to eg.Hard Wired. Some moments are good and there actually are a couple tracks which dont just dissapear into an off the wall brandon fields sax solo and the less said about the one with his daughter on vocals the...

The final track blows me away. I would have liked to have heard a little more riding on his stacked mini-china on this CD as he has on past releases. Also, I thought parts of the opening track might have sounded cool if he "swung" the beat rather than riding eighth notes on the aux hi-hat..... but who the hell am I to talk??? The drumming is his best yet in my opinion, but I personally prefer the overall musical style of "Transition" just a little more.

As always, Weckl's drumming is exceptional. That goes without saying. What I enjoy about this CD almost as much, though, is the addition of Jerry Hey's incredible horn section on several tracks. They bring an extra juice to the album that, even if you are not a fan of Weckl, make the album an excellent purchase. You can also find the same horn section on Weckl's Master Plan CD, which I also recommend heartily.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gets better and better., January 22, 2007
This review is from: Perpetual Motion (Audio CD)
I heard Multiplicity first, then Rhythm of the Soul. Now Perpetual Motion. Perpetual Motion just gets better and better every time I hear it. I love it! I think every Dave Weckl CD makes you appreciate his other CDs. You understand and "get" his music more fully. I notice more and pick out different songs each time. The music truly grows with each listen. It's hard to pick out favorites. I love Double Up and Overdrive. I think his daughter's voice on the beginning of Child's Play has a very clear sweetness about it and is appropriate to the song. Dave Weckl just keeps getting better and I look forward to all the days ahead.

So good! I love Dave Weckl beyond doubt. In fact, one of the reasons I bought this CD was because of his song, Tiempo de Festival! Amazing drummer.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps getting better!, November 17, 2002
This review is from: Perpetual Motion (Audio CD)
I have been listening to this CD almost every day since I bought it (the day it came out) and I'm not tired of it yet. I've been a big fan of Dave's since 1986 with the Chick Corea Elektric Band. (Sounds like there may be a reunion album in the works.) I think this has got to be one of the Dave Weckl Band's best efforts so far, although Transition was excellent too. I've actually surprised myself since I've ended up liking Weingart more than Oliver on keyboards! Don't hesitate to buy this CD!

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes!! Keep Doing stuff like this Weckl!!, October 18, 2002

Man!This album is what I was wanting to hear from Weckl for so long!I like the dave weckl band stuff, but,I liked what he was doing back in his early days..(Aka. Master plan,Heads up).
I would be the minority, but I liked the heavy synth sounds, and
I also liked when Weckl was just being himself instead of mimmicking steve gadd.I know most would like the acoustic sound more, but I really liked the real Weckl!

AND SEEMS HE'S BACK!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The master returns, September 26, 2002

This review is from: Perpetual Motion (Audio CD)
well well.....he we go again! another feast of chops, musicality, and utter taste. this album really is fantastic. dave's last offering was also very nice and possible nicer in some ways. The new album, playing wise, is far better. dave and the whole band really open some more doors....its a joy to listen to. However it seems dave has returned to some of the stuff he was doing in the 80's. by that i mean the sometimes overuse of all these synth sounds.....he is becoming less acoustic. The solos are obviously great but the actual melodies are sometimes lacking. but the addition of a horn section is great. The best tracks are 1,2,4,5,10,11. the rest seem to just wander into the neither here nor there basket. HOWEVER........dave weckl is the best drummer in the world......NO question, and this album is still a must have for any jazz/fusion fan. all he needs to do now is release a live album! PLEASE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge Dave Weckl Fan, December 9, 2002
This review is from: Perpetual Motion (Audio CD)
I have been a dave weckl fan since his first cd master plan and I got to tell you, this guy is like fine wine, he gets better with time. He is so far ahead of himself it's unbeliveable, and this last cd(perpetual motion) proved that without a dout. So keep up the good work Dave and tell tom keep those fucnky bass lines grooving.

5.0 out of 5 stars He Rocks!!!, January 5, 2003

This review is from: Perpetual Motion (Audio CD)
Dave Weckl has always played extrordinary! But, on this cd Dave Weckl plays at his total best. He plays through grooves, soft jazz, and craziness. If you are looking for an awsome band, get this cd. The sax is extrordinary, the bass is extrordinary, the horns are a total A+, and of course the drums just purely rock. To sum it all up, this is the best band that has ever been alive. I would rate this an easy A+, 100,000,000,000,000 etc -infinity%, 5 star cd. If you want the best fusion expierience in the universe, BUY THIS CD RIGHT NOW, A.S.A.P!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
