3.0 out of 5 stars 3rd time's a charm?
I'm waiting for my third Epic as I write this. The first two had defects that made them unplayable, which is sad because I'm a big fan of the Rookie and Standard balls and I've been waiting for this one for awhile. The Perplexuses are great games and I would fully give this a 5 across the board if the quality control on these things was a little better. :(...

You could speed through the Original Perplexus once knew what you were doing. With Epic, you have to finesse the ball different ways in different areas or that thing is going off the track.Cool new obstacles. One looks like stairs out of an Escher painting. If you loved Original Perplexus you have got to try EPIC!

The first Epic had a misaligned section of the maze that offset several key points, making them almost impossible. Eventually I realized it WAS impossible at a point because the ball didn't have room to go under an obstacle. Returned it. Amazon sent another.

Second Epic looked good, but on closer inspection the piece that the gondola slides along has a spur in the plastic that won't allow the gondola to slide all the way across to the other side. Returned it. Amazon sent another.

Update: The third Perplexus is defect-free, I'm happy to report. It was almost a game in itself trying to get one that wasn't defective. I'm glad that Amazon makes returning and exchanging items easy.

1.0 out of 5 stars Broke Within 2 Hours!!, May 19, 2011

After waiting for months (including the postponed release date), the Perpluxus Epic finally arrived yesterday and my son was overjoyed when he returned home from school.
However, after only an hour of playing with it he showed me that one of the screws (by #1) was very loose and that he must be careful that the ball doesn't fall through when he begins playing(picture posted).
Another hour later, he came to me to tell me that the funnel piece totally dislodged from the Perplexus (picture posted as well) and is now rolling around the unit whenever it is moved, effectively making it unplayable. This seems to be the same piece that has broken on another reviewer unit as well.
As you can imagine, my son and I are devastated!
After waiting months for this, the unit broke within a few short hours and was not even dropped once (compared to our regular Perplexus that has been dropped multiple times but keeps on ticking!).
I have emailed the company but have not received a response yet.
Edit- After contacting the company, I received a replacement which seems to be much better quality.

Very fun to play, until you find out you cannot finish the puzzle because of manufacturing defects. The receiving funnel is coming undone and is very loose. A tab at 51 that holds the twin rails has broken and it poking out of the rails so the ball bearing cannot go through 50 to 52. Massive disappointment for such a good toy. The Original on the other hand is very solid.
Bottom line - Very nicely design, but buy at your own risk as you may not be able to finish the game due to poor quality control.

5.0 out of 5 stars My new Vice..., May 18, 2011

I just received my Perplexus Epic after months of anticipation and I am absolutely blown away! Perplexus Original is a big hit in our family and after mastering it, I couldn't wait to see how many hours of my life would be "wasted" on this Epic adventure. Not surprisingly, the hours have turned more into time periods known as days, and I have found myself neglecting most of my normal husband and fatherly duties once I get home from the grind...(thanks for the break Epic). It is definitely more sophisticated, complex, and entertaining that the Original, and seems like it should be handled with some extra TLC because of its complexity. Crazy hard, crazy fun!

If you have the regular perplexus, then this one will not meet your expectations. Although it is harder than the original that can only apply if parts of the maze do not break, which then render it useless. Within a week one piece broke off. Unfortunately we could not return it because we purchased it and held onto it for a birthday. Its been about 2 months and another piece is broken. We have had the original for over 2 years and that one is still in great condition, which shows they did this one on the cheap.... I don't plan on getting another one, and I would not recommend purchasing it unless you are extremely careful...

Everytime the ball falls off I yell and stomp feet... but it is fun! This one is the toughest by far of the Perplexus'. It requires lots of luck as you make your way through the nearly impossible obstacles.

As for durability, it was a bad move for the Perplexus company to resort to cheap, thin plastic covering compared to the original Superplexus which is durable and heavy. Love this game, but I seriously doubt that it can be defeated!!

We purchased the original perplexus maze for my son, and he loved it, I loved it. We thought this would be a nice step up for a challange. While the maze challanges are very well designed, the construction quality is very lacking. The outside shell is noticably thinner than the original. We purchased the maze three months ago, and some of the challanges/obsticles are now falling apart. I would recommend this if you are an adult and will handle with the utmost care, but if this is intended for anyone who may accidentally let it roll off of the chair, I would save your money.

Well, it would be a great toy if it didn't break right away. We are big fans of the original and preordered 2 Epics. My kids were pretty disappointed that they both broke in the same place within two days of receipt. I am returning.

I ordered perplexus for my 10 year old son. we have the first one, and this one seemed a great challenge. however, it came with a broken piece! i was not surprised only because i have read this in previous reviews! it is obviously poorly constructed. now i have the headache of returning it.
