For we fans who have waited PATIENTLY for this day, it has FINALLY arrived! The longest-running sci-fi series in the WORLD is back in print...IN ENGLISH!
Fan Pro picked a great point in the PR story arc to re-introduce PR to a new generation of readers.
The story reminds me a bit of Harlan Ellison's 'Phoenix without Ashes', the novel that the 1973 TV series 'The Starlost' was loosely based.
The crew of a mining ship is surrepticiously transporting the leader of the Solar Imperium, Perry Rhodan, into the territory of the Akons, in hopes of forging new alliances. They discover a generation ship launched over 10,000 years ago, traveling with a 'cloak', only after one of the mothership's mining pods disappears. What they find on-board is only the beginning of this small saga within the grand scheme of the Rhodan Universe, now at 2422 (Jan 2008) issues and going strong!
The translator did a fanatastic job porting it from the native German and the editors earned their pay.

Whether you're already a fan of the "Perry Rhodan" science fiction series from its U.S. edition in the 1970's or whether you've never heard of "Perry Rhodan" but enjoy a good space adventure story, buy this book! It is the first of a six-part series called "Lemuria" and features both a vision of humankind's future in space while also revealing ancient secrets about Earth's past. As a long-time fan, I generally read the Perry Rhodan series in its German original and am just thrilled that it's finally back in the U.S.

Having just received the book and read only a couple chapters I have to say that I like what Ive seen very much. Ive been a huge fan of Perry Rhodan for long time.

If it was just the story, Id give this a 5, however, its the physical book itself that prevents it. The type is far to light and the binding is so close to the printed word that Im a little afraid of stretching it to far in the open position. To me, its just a very poor product design that I hope will not impact my enjoyment of the story itself.

Finally, more Perry Rhodan. If I could read German I'd buy all the back issues. A good story. I recommend it for all Perry fan. One bad thing though, I'm not sure if the other five novels were ever published, so I'll never know the end of the story. Still, it was nice to finally read some more Perry Rhodan action.

I grew up on the english, 1970's Perry Rhodan and when I found this one volume, I had to buy it. And it did bring back many mamories. Way too much missing in between though. From where the US original series ended and where this one begins. Makes me want to learn German to catch up.

If, like me, you met Perry Rhodan in his english translations, you haven't kept up with his adventures over the past 30+ years. This book takes place so far in his future that I barely recognized him. Or the people around him. And, while I applaud anything that brings PR to the english speaking world, this one was just too far away from "my" Perry that I couldn't enjoy it. But, that is a personal observation. Your observations may vary.

Having said that, the actual story is enjoyable for what it is: part of a new 6-book arc of a self-contained story line. The writing is well crafted and the translation from the original German appears to have been done by someone (or a team) who are fluent in both languages.

Considering that this one is the first part of 6 volumes and it is an introduction to the plot is not bad. PR is a co-adjuvant in the plot. I new the story and it is getting much better in the following volumes, that unfortunately weren't published yet. We, PR fans, are waiting for them!

I enjoy Perry Rhodan, but my order for this volume was delayed forever, my order for the 2nd volume was canceled and I had to go thru a distributor, and I don't even see listing for the 3rd volume, so who knows if I'll even be able to get it?

So why bother.
