Best thing since sliced bread!Well...for Chemical Engineers',
By Dianna Lucia Ralston (Corvallis, Oregon United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perry's Chemical Engineers' Platinum Edition (Hardcover)
I am a Junior/Senior in Chemical Engineering, and I can't say enough about this set I recently purchased. My husband is a Graduate student in Chemical Engineering and he told me to hold off, that he never used his copy (1991 version), and never needed it in college. I use the electronic book all the time on my laptop. It's a great resource, and so EASY to use. I even caught my husband using my Perry's on more than one occasion, and he finally admitted my version was much better and easier to use than his! He went out and bought his OWN copy! I pretty much only use the electronic book, but it's nice to know if my laptop crashed, I have a hardcopy to go to. With the active 8, you can get the variables from a z-Compressibility Chart without having to take out the magnifying lens and ruler. Just slide your mouse and a red bordered legend tells you the Tr Pr and z simultaneously until you reach your desired measurements. Printing is a cinch, and it looks like the hardcopy except on 1 page! As I said, I use this book about every day, and I am sure this is what I'll bring to the office when I'm done with school. This would have been sweet during my Material/Energy Balance class as a sophomore, too. If you're a student you already spend $500+ on textbooks a term anyway, you might as well buy a book that has the information of every book you will buy in college in one resource for a little extra money, I put my name on it. You won't regret it if you're serious about your major.

Perry's Chemical Engineer's Handbook Platinum Edition,
By A Customer
This review is from: Perry's Chemical Engineers' Platinum Edition (Hardcover)
This is the best deal ever for Perry's. This book is the Chemical Engineer's Bible and has everything in great and small detail. The electronic CD makes it even easier to use-a very useful tool to any traveling engineer. I wish I had the CD version in college.

A must-have reference for all power & process engineers,
By Hadi Kazwini (North Ryde, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Perry's Chemical Engineers' Platinum Edition (Hardcover)
I used the early editions of Perry before, but this 7th edition is the most comprehensive one ever. All you need from steam tables to equations & formulae are all included in the CD ROM. I recommend it to every professional engineer in power plant and/or process industries. It's a must-have reference. Hadi Kazwini Plant Performance Engineer ALSTOM POWER LTD Australia

Perry's Chemical Engineers' Platinum Edition,
By A Customer
This review is from: Perry's Chemical Engineers' Platinum Edition (Hardcover)
My cousin who is studying Chemical Engineering in Nigeria asked me to buy Perry's Chemical Engineers' Seventh Edition for him. I did a search and found both the Seventh and the Platinium Editions. I decided to buy the Platinium Edition for him. But before I shipped it to him I had to read some chapters for a class I am still taking on Chemical Engineering. I found it so verse, educating and easy. It is a book any one who is doing anything related with Chemicals or Chemical Engineering should have handy. I remember one of my Professors telling me that "we are training you for the industries, so come to exams with your texts afterall out there you gonna use those texts." I highly recommend this book.

If you are a Chem-E and don't own this book then you might as well kill yourself, or switch to mechanical.

The CD doesn't replace the hardcopy,
By
This review is from: Perry's Chemical Engineers' Platinum Edition (Hardcover)
The platinum edition is perfect - CD and hardcopy. While the CD doesn't replace the hardcopy it is very handy for it's portability and the accuracy of the 'active charts'.
The book is much more user friendly than the CD and if you can only afford one or the other then I'd recommend buying the book. It can be quite difficult to find things on the CD version and it is slower than it needs to be as it always works off the CD drive (copying the CD onto the hard drive isn't an option).

Convenient for labs,
This review is from: Perry's Chemical Engineers' Platinum Edition (Hardcover)
The hardcopy Perry's is a fun bedside table read for chemical engineers, and makes an excellent review manual. But it is bulky and heavy to lug around to labs or study rooms, and so the CD's that are part of this edition are first rate tools to load on your laptop so that Perry's tables and measurements in searchable format( the next thing to 'The Force' that there is a for chemical engineers) is aways with you. Excellent item, and fortunately Amazon had it at an attractive price. It is a bonus to also have the hard copy. Good item to have for your 3d year forward, and essential for grad students or working engineers.

OK- it's Perry's! Standard Perry's... there no phenomenal extra features... the packing is fairly nice though.. BUT the CD.. I cannot get the CD to self run- I can't get it to work period!!
