another holocaust--prevented this time--just barely, August 4, 2005
This review is from: Persecution of Gypsies in Romania (Paperback)
The tragedy of the Romania gypsies of the 1980"s, like the Jews
of Europe in the 1940s, and the people of Rwanda in the 1990s,
is that unless "one's personal ox" is being gored, then no one
cares. Indeed, there was an effort exterminate the Gysies of
Romania, and produce a "pure Romanian-Thracian race", as late as
1989. I saw this in early 1989, as I was in Bucharest, the
Romanian capital. Only the Revolution of December of 1989,
prevented another European Holocaust--with Gysies of Romania
being the victims of mass genocide. The orphans of the
slain Gypsies are growing up in a new and democratic Romania,
but Gypsies still are, at best, third-class citizens.
Unlike the Jews, who have the State of Israel to speak up them,
the Gypsies have NO Gypie State to flee to.
The near-Holocaust of the Gypsies of Rumania MUST NOT be
forgotten.
Accordingly;
I recommend The Persecution of the Gypsies in Romania, as an
excellent book, and yet, this book should be a WARNING about
the tragedy of State-sponsored genocide.
