5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutley Mind Blowing!!!
Reading this book sent shock waves down my spine. I usually don't upset very easily, but what the communist would do to innocent Christian people is so cruel it will make you sick. I loved to see this young man, Sergei, come to know Christ after all the atrocities he did. I would recommend this book to anyone who thinks that he has problems in life. This will make you...

3.0 out of 5 stars K. -orphan, persecutor, evangelist, martyr, by age 22.
This book is the autobiography of a young orphan, recruited by the KGB to expose and torture Christians. Converted by their example of love, he defected to Canada and told the truth about communism's brutality to the Church. For this, he was murdered. Fr. Nicholas Pekatoras said his funeral. He is buried in Washington, DC.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rough Reading, Eye-Opening, Full Of Sorrow And Courage, August 19, 2001

Every time I read this book, I cry. I don't read it often because it shakes me up too badly. It makes you count your blessings. If you're feeling sorry for yourself over most any Western-level problem, Sergei's story is effective therapy! If you want a realistic view of life under communism, here it is. A must-read for those "enemies of the State" knows as "believers".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Piece of True Literature, February 25, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: The Persecutor (Hardcover)
"The Persecutor" was one of the best books I have ever read! Totally outstanding detail that kept me going page after page. From his childhood, to him escaping to Cananda, Sergei Kourdokov took you on a trip to Russia, were life is hard and only the strong survive. This story was not only suspensful, but very moving and tragic. I recommend this book for those seeking spiritual revival or just to have a book to read again and again!

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this!, September 6, 2002
This review is from: The Persecutor (Hardcover)
In post 9/11 America, this is even more so a "must-read" for everyone. It reminds us of the mercy of God, the power of Christian witnessing, and the blessings we have in the United States to have freedom of religion. Find this book at a used book store. Read it. Then tell someone else about it. It needs to be back in print.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Saul, why do you persecute me?", December 22, 1999

This book is worth its weight in gold. Sergei is a cold-war era "Saul", converted to Paul, who gave his life for what he believed in. It is a tragedy that this book is out of print. Whoever holds the copyright on this book needs to get it republished immediately!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Modern Sinner-turned-Saint Story!! Wow!, October 1, 2006
This review is from: The Persecutor (Paperback)
I could not put this amazing book down from the first page to the last it is a thriller, only with a heady spiritual twist! This Kourdakov was truly a survivor, but also a witness to the power of God's amazing redemption in the life of every sinner who repents. What a glorious testimony to the power of faith and prayer! A truly unforgettable story that will stick with me for the rest of my life.

Sad this book is not available, but delighted to read that many others were moved by this marvelous working of God in the life of this young man in the former Soviet Union.

The scene of his planning the escape off the ship is magnificent and the young girl on one of his raids taking advantage of the opportunity God gave her shared the living hope within her.

Get this book, you'll be blessed!

Definitely a 'must-read' on your list. A nice, sound, real-life story of a russian secret police with a brilliant future career infront of him. But Sergei seems to find the truth in him, and gets to know God in a way that any person would be delighted to read. He finds the necessary strenght, courage and conviction to fullfill his goals and becomes a catholic, after escaping to Canada. This excellent book is not only a true-story dramatic and interesting novel. It is a great way of understanding and realizing everything we have: health, family, a job, happiness, and God of course.

5.0 out of 5 stars AN EYE OPENER, December 12, 2000
By
This review is from: The Persecutor (Hardcover)
Read this book a while back, and I have to say it brought tears to my eyes and a deep sorrow. We Christians here in the States have it way too easy. We fill our churches on Sunday morning, but when it comes to sharing the gospel you rearly get more than a few Christians to show up. We are scare of what people might say, but in other countrys our brothers and sisters have to deal with what they might do to them. This book opened my eyes on the laxity we believers have it in America, and true persecution is the only thing that will wake us up as it did to Sergei.
