Editorial Reviews

From Booklist

The Greek pantheon provides a ready-made cast of colorful characters for the Goddess Girls series, which explores universal trials and tribulations of early adolescence. In this latest volume, Persephone, known in mythology as the wife of Hades and goddess of the Underworld, is looking to shake up her dependable good-girl image at Mount Olympus Academy. She decides to try to charm her crush, Orpheus, with daring stunts, but in the end, she learns the value of dependability and the power of abandoning her comfort zone. A modern spin on basic mythology is the impetus for these clearly imagined characters, who contend with age-appropriate conflicts and problems. Grades 4-7. --Erin Anderson --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Persephone the Daring continues the series that turns Greek mythology heroes into modern day teenagers going to school and learning all about life and friendship.

In Greek mythology Persephone (pur-SEF-uh-nee) is kidnapped by Hades, the god of the underworld. Her mother, the goddess of the harvest, braves a rescue to bring Persephone home.

Hades agrees to let Persephone go home for one half of the year during spring and summer when flowers bloom. The half of the year where Persephone is with Hades the world knows the barren seasons of fall and winter.

In the Goddess Girls series Persephone is a typical teen-age girl with friends and dates and school.
She is know as the "dependable one" according to the Teen Scrollazine poll.

When a girl's sleep-over truth or dare game is played Persephone will be given the dare to get the autograph of mortal rock star Orpheus.

Will she be the dependable one or can she turn into the daring one?

With the help of backup singer Eurydice, Persephone tries to be a little more daring.

But when Eurydice is trapped in the Underworld and Hades birthday present comes to bloom, plans are formed, music fans are entertained, and Persephone strengthens her friendship with Hades.

Amazing writing!
Fun story!

I think that this book is great because it is like the real story of Orpheus and Eridice but with a little bit of a twist. That is what makes it a great book.

I have read each book before my daughter reads them. I have loved the series myself. I was not sure when I saw this one how it would be. Persephone is the quietest and least wild. This book changes those opinions about her. Enough said! Don't want to ruin a good book!

My 8 year old read all the books in these series in about 4 weeks. She eagerly went to her room during her brother's nap times just so she could read her Goddess Girls books. Big fans of this series!

Both my daughters read practically the whole series. They have always been engrossed in these books up to 11 years old or so. What a great idea to bring mythology to life in such a cool way! I only wish there were more or that the books were longer, because as of right now they are done with them in one afternoon. Keep them coming, there is a lot of good mythology/history out there that our children can get into!
