Even though the Proclaimers seem to be on the same album release timetable as Peter Gabriel, it is always well worth the wait. Once again the twins put out a solid top to bottom effort. The best thing about the Proclaimers is they are consistent; they don't try to remake themselves constantly like U2, but instead stick with the formula that made them what they are. That formula is great song writing, powerful vocals, crisp harmonizing and lyrics about women, booze, love and family. If you liked their past efforts, you should buy this disk immediately. I wish the the U.S. would appreciate this group for their greatness, but I'm kind of glad it hasn't; I still get to see them up close in small venues with reasonable ticket prices.

It's been seven years since The Proclaimer's last effort, 1994's "Hit The Highway" and they are back with their signature sound. They have much to offer this time out with one of the finest rock and roll songs I've heard in quite a while "There's A Touch". Should be a smash hit, but I'm guessing it will be overlooked--which is just fine! I don't need to hear it overplayed! There are other great songs here like "Sweet Little Girls", "How Many Times", "Everybody's A Victim" and "Don't Give It To Me". Many of the tracks have the usual wit, social commentary and irony that comes with The Proclaimers. I liked this disc better than "Hit The Highway", and "Persevere" seems more focused and urgent. If you have kept up with The Proclaimers, this will definitely satisfy. Now, The Proclaimers just need to release cds more often!

I fell in love with these guys many moons ago. Long before that darn song from Benny and Joon. Nevertheless, they deserved the success. The next album was definitely uninspired and qhite honestly forgettable. Well, many years later, without much fanfare or airplay, Persevere is released. I have never wanted this band to make it "too" big, but if they do it from this album I will be thoroughly overjoyed. I think that there is maybe one or two songs that were not instant joy, but the rest of the album is so fresh, fun and full of life, it makes up for the two. They seem to have fully integrated theire country pop folk sensibilities and their clever views on society into some truly fun summer music.

I was perusing a music store recently looking for nothing particular. Much to my suprise I happened upon this new album from the Proclaimers who have disappeared for quite some time. A long-time fan, I quickly snapped up the album. After the second playing of the CD, I was very pleased with the album. I've now experienced about 6-7 listenings and can proudly give it my highest recommendation. If you are remotely interested in the Proclaimers, this is a must have album. If you are not familiar with the Proclaimers, this is an excellent introduction.

It was well worth waiting for!! The Proclaimers are the best band I've ever heard, no kidding! These guys write & sing as if they knew me inside & out. I, being American, can relate to everything these Scots put to paper. It shows that music is indeed the universal language. Being their age, I can relate to their joys & sorrows, questions of religion & the need for good, hard-driving, party-down music. The mix of soul, rockabilly & country & folk are made more endearing by the accents of Craig & Charlie Reid. They rock, they make you tear up and they present the perfect alternative to today's dime-a-dozen, techno-tarnished [stuff] that passes off as music. Listen to the songs (lyrics are included to help decipher some of the words) & you'll be hooked. A must have with "Sunshine on Leith" & "Hit the Highway".

'Persereve' made me laugh and cry - it is brilliant. As always, the Proclaimers sing their hearts out and there is something on this album for everyone. (And I loved 'Hit The Highway'!)

They're back!,

"Persevere" ranks right after "Sunshine on Leith" for accessibility and sheer fun! The opening track (There's a Touch) is a real toe-tapper along the lines of "500 Miles". (Catch the video at the Proclaimers' website for a laugh (proclaimers.co.uk) "Scotland's Story" is a pleasant story of multiculturalism. "She Arouses Me So" made me laugh, first just reading the title, and then listening to the song.I've been a big Proclaimers fan since 1988, always hoping for a new record. "Hit the Highway" was disappointing -- dour and unmemorable. But with "Persevere" the Proclaimers are back and just as good as ever. If you liked "Sunshine on Leith" or "This is the Story" you'll enjoy "Persevere".

Proclaimers "Persevere",
This review is from: Persevere (Audio CD)
Scotland's Proclaimers - twin brothers who evoke Buddy Holly - aptly title this album Persevere, as again it seems like life keeps interfering in what periodically seems like a successful music career. But thankfully it seems to provide ample fodder for original material. "There's a Touch" is pure Scottish-style energy, with the brothers' voices playing against each other effectively. "A Land Fit for Zeros" and "Scotland's Story" reveal frustration at social trends, particularly the socialism of ennui, and Britain's continuing history of racism. "Act of Remembrance" lays bear the sadness that accompanies maturity. One hopes these powerful brothers continue to Persevere.
