5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious, Beautiful, Low Carb, Low Fat and Persian
Although I grew up in Bagh-e Ferdows in north Tehran and Gholam-Ali khan was a great cook, I never knew that Persian cooking had so many wonderful, low-carb, low-fat recipes for fish and kababs. This book is also full of regional recipes that have not been so delicately, and temptingly presented since the Safavids ruled Iran--and the recipes are healthy to boot. A...

1.0 out of 5 stars Kind of a rip off...
This book is virtually the same as "New Food of Life: Ancient Persian and Modern Iranian Cooking and Ceremonies " (which I LOVE)...what you're paying for here are the same recipes only with lowfat yogurt, less oil and things that I feel we could have figured out on our own...to cut fat.

I'll be returning my copy...but again, "New Food of Life: Ancient Persian...

When I moved to San Jose I was exposed to Persian cuisine for the fist time in my life and fell in love.

Najmieh K. Batmanglij has provided me, in this book, a great introduction to cooking the type of food I love while at same time respecting my healthy attitudes towards cooking.

This is a great cook book.

and to think our mothers try to convince us that cooking iranian food was sooooo difficult! this book makes it easy and delicious. i was amazed at how wonderful everything has turned out and the pictures are fantastic. she offers beautiful serving ideas that are perfect for dinner parties, etc. just double her salt recommendations and you'll be ready to go :)

I bought this book a year ago and have spent the past year perfecting my Persian cooking skills. With out Najmieh Batmanglij's wonderful book I'd be lost. The book is exquisite and replete with photographs, and wonderfully yummy recepies. I reccomend this book to anyone--especially anyone who loves cooking. Ms. Batmanglij is truly a master chef as well as master artist. I will buy her books for everyone in my family I reccomend you do the same.

These are good recipes and are clearly written, but I think the prep and cooking time estimates are a little optimistic. Very good directions for cooking rice with the perfect golden crust.

If you enjoy Persian cuisine, you should buy Najmieh Batmaglij's other book called "New Food of Life" it has all of the recipes of this book and MORE. I've had the "New Food of Life" for 8+ years and its one book I use A LOT. Her measurements and explanations are great and easy to understand in both books. Enjoy or as Batmaglij ends her recipes Nush-e Jan!

5.0 out of 5 stars Persian Cooking for a Healthy Kitchen, June 15, 2008
This review is from: Persian Cooking for a Healthy Kitchen (Paperback)
This book introduces the reader into a world of tastes and smells, with simple words and with pictures able to inspire the fantasy and imagination about very far countries, very old civilities. It helped me a lot about cooking special dishes, so different from the traditional one, and improved my knowledge on how many different ways can lead to good tastes and to the pleasure of food.

5.0 out of 5 stars great cook book, December 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I don't usually buy cook books but I purchased it because Persian cooking is something so unique that just finding random recipe on google didn't work with me. I tried half of the recipe listed here, and I am happy how they came out. It's easy to read, easy to keep it open on kitchen counter while i cook. I like all the photos being so big, so i know how to decorate on dish. Overall, I am very happy with this cooking book.
