Screwball musical starring Ginger Rogers,
By
This review is from: In Person [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Fresh off her 1935 triumph with Fred Astaire in TOP HAT (VHS edition) (DVD edition), Ginger Rogers had star billing for IN PERSON. She plays here an actress who suffers from agoraphobia after a nervous breakdown. Using false buckteeth and eyeglasses to disguise her notoriety, Ginger heads off to the mountains with a businessman she's just met (George Brent). A fine little musical screwball comedy, with a few songs by Oscar Levant and Dorothy Fields and dances choreographed by Hermes Pan.
As of 1/09, IN PERSON was not available on DVD. Related items: CAREFREE (1938) - Fred Astaire is the psychoanalyst, Rogers the patient who undergoes hypnotism under his watch. (VHS edition) (DVD edition) Alan Mowbray (Jay Holmes) is delightful as the over-the-top title character in THE VILLAIN STILL PURSUED HER (1940). His co-star: Buster Keaton. (DVD only) Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 viewer poll rating found at a film resource website. (6.1) In Person (1935) - Ginger Rogers/George Brent/Alan Mowbray/Grant Mitchell/Samuel S. Hinds/Joan Breslau/Louis Mason/Spencer Charters |
