Book Description

February 22, 2008
Harry Jackson and Tony Perkins believe that America stands at a crossroads. As a nation we must choose God's blessings or His destruction of our society. The "Religious Right," as it has been termed, often looks to the world as its enemy, and many Christians have seen themselves as combatants in war against anti-God forces. In Personal Faith, Public Policy, Jackson and Perkins take a radical new position, stating that the Christian church must lead morally and impact the culture with personal spiritual power and unified Christian public policy, demonstrating how a unified church can tackle each one of the seven major problems of our culture. Achieving victories in each of the seven areas presented will result in vanquishing the big problem facing our country-moral decay. Show Less

From the Inside Flap

Where do we go from here? Is there a set of public policies and personal choices we can make that will ensure another four hundred years of God's blessing upon America? Today we stand at a crossroads. In Personal Faith, Public Policy, Harry Jackson and Tony Perkins take a fresh, balanced look at the core issues we are facing today, laying out a comprehensive strategy that can bring evangelicals together across racial and denominational lines to:

1. Preserve and protect life by continuing our fight for the unborn; addressing issues such as child abuse, stem cell research, elder care and euthanasia, and capital punishment; and standing firm against those who would take innocent life through acts of terrorism
2. Reform immigration policy by improving our legal immigration process while dealing with our rampant illegal immigration problem
3. Alleviate domestic poverty and ensure justice at home by reforming health care and reasserting our mission to help the working poor, orphans, widows, and the destitute to find personal, spiritual, and financial refuge
4. Cultivate racial harmony and diversity by developing partnerships across racial lines and raising up minority leaders in key politically active ministries
5. Protect religious freedom by learning the truth about the separation of church and state, the current religious liberties battleground, and what the Bible says about the freedom of religion
6. Defend marriage and family by supporting promarriage policies and divorce reform at both the national and state levels
7. Protect the environment by properly caring for God's creation and making changes in America's energy policies

America's future can be as bright as the promises of God. To realize these promises, we must take action on these seven critical steps in our private lives, in our churches, and collectively in our public policy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bipartisanship Can Exist!, March 12, 2008

This review is from: Personal Faith, Public Policy: The 7 urgent issues that we, as people of faith, need to come together and solve. (Hardcover)
This book is written by two men who come from very different backgrounds. One is a Republican the other a Democrat, but some how they have managed to do what the House and Senate have not been able to do for years, agree! Despite their different backgrounds both Jackson and Perkins present very clear and practical resolutions to seven issues that are before the heart of every person of faith: preserve and protect life; reform immigration; alleviate domestic poverty; cultivate racial harmony; protect religious freedom; defend marriage and family; and protect the environment. These men don't waste the readers time with political rhetoric, their book is not overwhelmed with scriptures from the Bible that leave the reader over powered, and their certainly is not a leaning towards the right or left; rather they presented the problems along with resolutions. In the end the reader is faced with the pivotal choice to administer change in our society. This book is instrumental for the life of every American and will effect and provoke our society to change if we choose to apply the resolutions presented before us. My fellow Americans, it is not the election of a President that is going to change our situation it is the understanding that America has always had a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. We the PEOPLE must be the orchestrators of change! Pick up your copy today and begin to initiate change for our country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Read For This Year's Election, March 11, 2008
This review is from: Personal Faith, Public Policy: The 7 urgent issues that we, as people of faith, need to come together and solve. (Hardcover)
Amazing---a black Harvard grad meets up with a white leader of a pro-famioy organization and voila...who would know they could not only agree on something but define positive ways to address the issues facing the U.S. today? This has just enough research and info to make it credible, but not boring and just enough scripture to give the issues framework, without making it totally opinionated. Evey voter should get a copy and pass it around their office!

I bought this book after hearing Harry Jackson speak. Finally read it 8 months later. FANTASTIC book. If you are a christian who's been wrestling with what a Biblical perspective is on solving the pressing issues in America today, how the church can play a role, and how you can play a role, this book is what you need to read. No matter what your political affiliations or family background is, you will benefit from this book. Absolutely worth your time.
