About the Author
Lawrence J. Gitman is an emeritus professor of finance at San Diego State University. A prolific writer, Dr. Gitman has more than 50 articles appearing in such publications as FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT, FINANCIAL REVIEW, FINANCIAL SERVICES REVIEW, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL PLANNING, JOURNAL OF RISK AND INSURANCE, JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL RESEARCH, FINANCIAL PRACTICE AND EDUCATION, and JOURNAL OF FINANCIAL EDUCATION. His major textbooks include PRINCIPLES OF MANAGERIAL FINANCE: BRIEF, 5e, PRINCIPLES OF MANAGERIAL FINANCE, 12e, and FOUNDATIONS OF MANAGERIAL FINANCE, 4e. He also co-authored PERSONAL FINANCIAL PLANNING, 11e and FUNDAMENTALS OF INVESTING, 10e with Michael D. Joehnk, and their INVESTMENT FUNDAMENTALS: A GUIDE TO BECOMING A KNOWLEDGEABLE INVESTOR was selected as one of 1988's ten best personal finance books by MONEY magazine. In addition, he co-authored INTRODUCTION TO FINANCE with Jeff Madura and CORPORATE FINANCE, 2e with Scott B. Smart and William L. Meggison. An active member of numerous professional organizations, Professor Gitman is past president of the Academy of Financial Services, the San Diego Chapter of the Financial Executives Institute, the Midwest Finance Association, and the FMA National Honor Society. In addition, he is a Certified Financial Planner and a Certified Cash Manager. Dr. Gitman served as vice-president, financial education of the Financial Management Association, as a director of the San Diego MIT Enterprise Form, and on the CFP© Board of Standards. He received his bachelor's degree from Purdue University, his MBA from the University of Dayton, and his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati. He and his wife have two children and live in La Jolla, Calif., where he is an avid bicyclist.
Mike is an Emeritus Professor of finance at Arizona Sate University. In addition to A.S.U., he has taught at the University of Wyoming, Texas Tech University, the University of Tulsa (where he was the Cities Service Research Professor of Finance), and in 1999, was a Visiting Professor at the University of Otago in New Zealand. He has written extensively in the areas of investments and finance, and his articles (over 40 of them) have appeared in numerous academic as well as professional publications. Mike is also the author (or co-author) of several books, including 2 highly successful college level texts ¿ Fundamentals of Investing, 8th edition (2001), Addison-Wesley, publisher; and Personal Financial Planning, 9th edition (2001), Dryden Press, publisher. The Investments text has also been translated into Spanish, Russian, Greek, and Mandarin (Chinese), and an Australian version of it was published in 2000. In addition to his academic credentials, Mike conducts off-campus training programs and executive development seminars not only in the U.S., but in a number of overseas locations as well. In addition, he has acted as a consultant to a number of business firms and financial institutions on a variety of topics in investments and finance, and has served as an expert witness (in the area of fixed-income securities).
