This is either the best or the second best George Howard record there is, depending on who you ask ("Love Will Follow" being the other). In any event, it's a great smooth jazz record from one of the originators of the form, and wears it's age well. You have to get it for the first 3-4 tracks alone. They're pure smooth jazz, and thet just don't make them as engaging or soulful as Howard did anymore. A must for any smooth jazz head, family bar-b-q or candlelight dinner at home.

If you follow the growth of George Howard through his career in music, it is an extraordinary journey. From his early days of working with Grover Washington Jr., to his funk period of the 80's, he unfolds in the 90's with not only his funk left in tact but an added inner peace and beauty. "You and Me" and "Piano in the Dark" are extraordinary in depth. No other jazz sax can compare to the accomplishment of this artist. Each experience into this cd deepens. Perhaps a predecessor to the "smooth jazz" of the 2000's, George Howard offers something different.

IT'S FUNNY WHEN LISTEN TO THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM, AND GOOD FEELING I GET FROM IT.MY FIRST TIME I HEARD ANY OF GH STUFF WAS ON HIS STEPPIN OUT ALBUM, THEN REFLECTIONS WITH THE SONG "ONE LOVE" JOHNNY GILL SANG. AT A TIME WHEN I WAS DEFENDING MY COUNTRY, LISTENING TO ANY OF GEORGE'S MUSIC ALWAYS MADE ME FEEL ALMOST YOUNG AGAIN. GOD BLESSED US ALL WHO WERE FORTUNATE TO HEAR HIS MUSIC,AND MY HEART HURT WHEN I HEARD OF HIS PASSING. SO MANY BEAUTIFUL SOUNDS THAT WOULD NOT BE CREATED, MAY YOU REST IN PEACE GEORGE HOWARD AND YOUR MUSIC LIVE FOREVER.

This is the best George Howard Album ever. I originally bought this release on cassette tape back in the day before CD's were the "in" thing. From the first cut "I want you for myself" to cut #10, "Piano in the Dark" this was simple great music. Normally I prefer music without the lyrics so I can work on other things at the office or at home with minimum distraction, but I didn't mind several cuts on this album that have lots of lyrics, such as "Shower you with Love" featuring John Pagano and "You and Me". George even makes the sax seem like he is talking or sayings the words through it, especially on "I want you for myself" and "Uptown". The high range notes of the Soprano Sax that George hits on cuts like "You and Me" and "I'm in Effect" are unmatched by any other Sax player I have ever heard. And the drum beat and keyborad licks are just amazing and beautifully arranged, especilly on "Personally and "Got it Goin' On." The glue on this album however, to me is the guitar and vocal performaces of Attala Zane Giles on all cuts except "You only come out at Night" and "Fakin the Feeling". Other noteable musicians are Paul Jackson Jr, guitar, George Duke, Piano/Synclavier and Percussionist Paulino deCosta. If you like a funky beat plus pop your finger and shake your Booty as well as pat your feet music you will love this album as I do.

This CD is great. I bought it when it came out, because in NYC they played the "shower you with love" track every morning on WBLS. While the whole Cd is great I love the above mentioned track the best. The music is excellent and the vocal of this young unknown artist named John Pagano really set this song on fire.
