4.0 out of 5 stars Communicates God's word in a sturdy, easy to carry Bible
I have always been a fan of the NLT Bible. While I use the KJV and NKJV as my main translations, the NLT is my favorite for devotional reading or when I just want to read the Bible in simple English. This text used in this Bible is the second edition of the NLT. The translation is tighter, much more traditional, yet still has that "living" quality. Out of all of the...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great version, not so greater printer
After reading the NKJ and the NIV for years I purchased a small (gift/presentation size) NLT and really like the version. But the small one is printed far into the binding, making it hard to read and almost impossible to underline or highlight. I bought this Personal Edition Large Print NLT but the paper is so thin the print on the back side of the paper can actually be...

Out of all of the modern Bible translations, the NLT is the only one that makes me feel as if its speaking directly to me. This particular copy is small enough to hold, yet the print can easily be read. My only gripe is that the print size in this one is not quite as large as in Tyndale's previous large print first edtion NLT. However, it is still very readable. This edition is on my night stand and I read it every night.

It's a perfect size, not bulky or heavy. Nice leather binding and large print that is very nice to read. I use this most of the time because it's such easy-reading and a excellent translation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Delighted with this Bible, January 30, 2008
This review is from: Personal Edition LP NLT (Bonded Leather)
I had been looking for some time for a new personal Bible. This translation had been recommended by several good sources for both readability and accuracy. When my order came I was delighted. The cover and feel of the book exceeded my hopes. The type is very readable even for a 64 year old. Now I plan to buy additional copies as gifts.

After reading the NKJ and the NIV for years I purchased a small (gift/presentation size) NLT and really like the version. But the small one is printed far into the binding, making it hard to read and almost impossible to underline or highlight. I bought this Personal Edition Large Print NLT but the paper is so thin the print on the back side of the paper can actually be read through the page which is very distracting when reading and in fact the print goes deep into the binding on this one as well. I sent it back and would not recommend it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Just what I needed, June 13, 2008
This review is from: Personal Edition LP NLT (Bonded Leather)
Personally, I believe the NASB is the best translation for detailed study where being as close to the original Hebrew, Greek, aramaic is important. With that said, the NLT is so much easier to read with certain passages that it actually shines light on nuances of scripture I would have missed with the NASB or KJV. Also, I find the NLT translation more clearly shows the emphasis of some scripture which I did not recognize with the KJV/NASB. So although I like the NLT for reading vs study, I now use it to study with my NASB.
This is the perfect compromise on easy to read font, bible size, and quality. Would have been 5 stars except found it priced at AllBibles dot com for TWENTY dollars less even with tax (it is in my state). Plus I don't like "gender neutralization" of bibles, political correctness has no place in the study of God's word, period.
