Alec McCowen details his study of The Gospel according to St. Mark in preparation for turning it into his celebrated 1980 one man show. The experienced British actor and veteran of several solo plays takes you step by step through the dramatic sleuthing to find the human story behind the King James language of the original. Life anecdotes illustrate the choices he made to create the show. I came away from the book with an insight into how a fine actor creates a role (and a one-person theatre piece) as well as insights into this gospel.
