4.0 out of 5 stars Personal Oracle Real Application Clusters book, April 2, 2008

This review is from: Personal Oracle Real Application Clusters: Create Oracle 10g Grid Computing at-home (Oracle In-Focus series) (Paperback)
A terrific effort at making Real Application Clusters available to anyone with a modest budget of $500 or less for hardware, unfortunately many of the cited websites no longer function as expected. That said, the enterprising reader should be able to find adequate substitutes as required of anyone involved in the fast moving IT technology sector, it's just a fact of life in this lane. I highly recommend this to people with a reasonable but not too high level of expertise, it's good practice to build your own.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice book but not relevant anymore, January 28, 2012

This review is from: Personal Oracle Real Application Clusters: Create Oracle 10g Grid Computing at-home (Oracle In-Focus series) (Paperback)
The setup of test RAC as per this book is NOW (year 2012) limited to old Dell 4100 and other obsolete softwares and hardware.

1.0 out of 5 stars Author is not supporting this book anymore. Don't buy it., December 23, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Personal Oracle Real Application Clusters: Create Oracle 10g Grid Computing at-home (Oracle In-Focus series) (Paperback)
I got the book on dec, 2011 and then had some questions.
So i got in touch with the author by email.
He promptly answered my questions and said that since the book was printed in 2005, he does not support the book anymore and also we cannot have access to the same hardware and software to run the configuration explained in the book.

So we would have a hard time making the shared storage device working with newer versions of linux.

He advised me not to buy the parts described in the book to create my own network using 3 computers. If i decide to do it, it's on my own. His words.

So, if you're planing to buy a book to teach you how to install RAC in a cluster, DON'T BUY THIS BOOK.

I have the following books about RAC and recommend them:
ORACLE 10G RAC GRID, SERVICES & CLUSTERING BY MURALI VALLATH (best);
ORACLE 10G REAL APPLICATION CLUSTERS HANDBOOK BY K GOPALAKRISHNAN (good);
