4.0 out of 5 stars Pillars of Destiny
So nice to see a clear/concise book focusing on Pillars of Destiny school of Feng Shui. The market is flooded with Black "Hat" Sect books, if you are interested in discovering your own personal element this book is invaluable. The book consists largely of charts, though there are a few interesting case studies. My two largest complaints are: that the charts...

2.0 out of 5 stars four pillars
pretty good book, doesnt give as much information as far as earthly branches (animals combinations), but does talk a lot about elements etc, sort of a neutral book.

The market is flooded with Black "Hat" Sect books, if you are interested in discovering your own personal element this book is invaluable. The book consists largely of charts, though there are a few interesting case studies. My two largest complaints are: that the charts only go back 1936 (this is a large problem since there are plenty of 65-70+ year olds whom I am sure would like to find their own birthdate!!) and I would like to see more suggestions on how to incorporate this information in our daily lives as well as in combination with other Feng shui schools.

4.0 out of 5 stars see if your family can start a fire., April 21, 2007
This review is from: Personalize Your Feng Shui: A Step-by-Step Guide to the Pillars of Destiny (Paperback)
Reviewed by Sondra Fowler for Reader Views (3/07)

I personalized my Feng Shui and found out my husband and I are water people; I gave birth to an earth person and a wood person, which loosely translates into the fact we cannot possibly start a fire because when you put us all together you get soggy, muddy wood. That aside, it was an interesting journey.

In "Personalize Your Feng Shui," the author, Evelyn Lip, gives you step-by-step directions and charts to find your "Pillars of Destiny." Those pillars will tell you what element of person you are. There is a choice or chance of being earth, wood, gold, water or fire. Hopefully you will have nourishing elements and tempering elements amongst the population of your pillars. If you aren't so lucky to have the nourishment or temperance that you need, all is not lost for you can fortify yourself by using beneficial colors, placements and shapes. For instance, my husband and I need wavy doors, if a wavy door isn't available, we can have a round one. My daughter however needs a square door, or at least a triangular one, and my poor soon needs yet another but he can use my wavy door if he wants. So that means our muddy, soggy wood needs at least two doors to our home? Probably not, because we can each, at least, modify our own rooms to meet our elemental needs. It turns out you also have elemental colors so you can fortify yourself by the color you wear, or drive, or paint, your walls. Now, can someone direct me to the North door? I need to go into my wavy, round, black and white house. Be careful where you step though it might be a little soggy.

I found "Personalize Your Feng Shui," to be challenging, enlightening and very interesting to read. I had the opportunity to do my family's charts and learn a lot along the way. I have worked with astrology plus the properties of color and elements before, but this was another leaf all together. You need to be open to a new way of divination, so don't expect this to be like reading about your Western Astrological sign. Take a chance; see if your family can start a fire.

Received book free of charge.
