Give this album more than just an inner thought,

I came across Inner Thought's earlier album at a local pawn shop and took it home. This band has managed to combine in-your-face death metal with a haunting, atmospheric aural elements that can be heard in the background. They've found a unique sound all their own,--Perspectives continues that while cranking the brutality up a notch.I love it.

Industrial-doom metal?,

If I had to assign this album to a genre, it would fit in somewhere between death metal and industrial. The guitars are raw and brutal, the vocals are raw and brutal, but most of the drums sound electronic. All in all, I found this album to be lacking in technical aspects. Most of the music is pretty simple, but the layers and combinations of sounds/effects really add to the overall sound of the album. A few short sound clips from various things (real films? fake?) seem out of place, and the methodical hammering of riffs really sets a tone that is reminiscent of Skrew. Personally, I feel that these guys just got lost in the flood of excellent death/industrial bands from the early and mid 90s that benefited from being on labels that gave them the exposure they needed.

a cool band but most likely, underappreciated,

PERSPECTIVES is a much more refined, well polished and mature 2nd effort as compared to their gloomy debut WORDLY SEPERATION. The band leader, Bobby Sadzak throws in drum programming, movie samples i.e. PLANET of the APES, female background vocals and techno sound programming to create something new and unique with cookie monster growls.I find this effort refreshing but most likely, purist death metallers are dismissing this album because of it's deviation of their definition of what death metal is supposed to sound like. Is this the reason why Bobby only put out two albums? Whatever happened to him? His contribution to the DWELL RECORDS CELTIC FROST tribute performing MORBID TALES was one of the best tracks on the disc (along with OPETH's CIRCLE OF THE TYRANTS) but the drum programming becomes annoying after awhile. For open-minded fans only. |
