In the name of the fathers, the daughters, and the very meddling ghost, February 4, 2012
This review is from: Persuasion (Kindle Edition)
I really like the way this author writes. She does have a unique way with words, I think the way the story is told is as compelling as the story itself. This is a book worth reading twice, the first time to find out how it all unfolds, and the second to savor the pace and the storytelling per se.
This is a delicious story, for any readers of any ages. It's difficult to describe what the plot is about without slipping any spoilers in. I wouldn't say it keeps you in total and absolute suspense until the very end, but very close! It leads towards a big bang finale but don't let that diminish the enjoyment of all the side-tracks. The events in the main story all happen in the span of a day, but the book addresses centuries worth of issues, environment, feminism, war...
On first sight, one would say there are two main characters AND a ghost, but on hindsight the story is really built on five big characters: Two fathers, their daughters, and the quaint ghost. Horatio is extremely proud of his progeny, the reserved Zoe, while Albert is your typical middle aged suburban male totally put off by his rebellious offspring, Jessica. Don't let the main leads' story detract from the pleasure of making these two fellows acquaintance. They are a riot!
The ghost is quite a character as well. Meddling is the least this spirit can be called, but its moody and stubborn personality is a driving force, funny and caring, always looking out for her "young charge", Horatio's daughter. You'll wonder what's the story there, but while you wonder and wait to find out, you'll be delighted with the spirit's mischief. I was positively enamored with the passage when the ghost first meets Zoe in her crib.
I won't say anything about Jessica and Zoe, least I reveal too much! I recommend this read to anyone who enjoys plain great writing and well-told, engaging stories.

Francine Saint Marie has a way with words, January 15, 2012
This review is from: Persuasion (Kindle Edition)
I really like the way this author writes. I really think she has a way with words and I enjoy the manner in which she puts her stories together. Persuasion is a very clever story. The characters are all interesting and the story is well written.
The book is a very quick read, even with the `do not develop the Pinelands' brochure that is inserted into the middle of an otherwise lovely piece of fiction.
None of the tags for the book are LGBT related. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I think it kind of gripes me. Also I think if I'd have paid $18.00 for a book that I read in less than 2 hours I'd be bent out of shape too. Like I had paid for a movie and got a television episode instead.
