Why no other reviews? This is *my* favourite Fall record, shame Amazon don't let you preview 'Eat Yerself Fitta' - hilarious. Yeah, yeah _This Nation's Saving Grace_ runs it close (as does _Slates_, _Dragnet_,etc etc eekcheter-tata) but this record beats em all handz dow

5.0 out of 5 stars Communists are just part time workers..., June 18, 2004

In my estimation you either love The Fall or hate The Fall. It is difficult to interpret the music any differently or in any shade of grey. Some love M.E. Smith's pedantic if not incoherant rants and screams (many of which takes a prismatic literary mastery and Artaud like insanity to understand.) Some hate the man and his music--just as well. He probably has the same disdain for them.
Then The Fall fans can sometimes be subdivided between the pre-Brix era and the Brix-era (I like both, and have little experience with the POST-Brix.) The pre-Brix era can be defined by the "skrankin'" guitars, right-on bass lines and rock steady drums. More punk than not. Brix era stuff is more pop.
This review could go with many albums, but I decided on ths one. It accompanies a video release of the same name. Unfortuantely this release does not have "Container Drivers" (in the video Mark E. Smith's face is pasted into a container driver truck.
"Smile" is an all out amazing song. The best track in my opinion is "Tempo House." Though monotonous and droning, it contains some of Smith's best stuff. This line sums it up for me as to why you would love or hate The Fall: "Snow on Easter Sunday....Jesus Christ in reverse. And I tell you the Dutch are weeping (in four languages at least.)
