About the Author

Julia Durango resides in Ottawa, Illinois, where she wrote a weekly book review column for children. She is the mother of two sons and is the author of Dream Hop, illustrated by Jared Lee,  as well as Pest Fest, illustrated by Kurt Cyrus. Her work also includes Go-Go Gorillas, a sequel to Cha-Cha Chimps, both illustrated by Eleanor Taylor and Dream Away, illustrated by Robert Goldstrom. Her first novel The Walls of Cartagena was a Junior Library Guild Selection. Her most recent novel is entitled Sea of the Dead. She is a contributor the Three Silly Chicks blog and lives in Ottawa, Illinois.

Kurt Cyrus has illustrated numerous picture books, including Buddy: The Story of Buddy Holly by Anne Bustard (Paula Wiseman Books, Mammoths on the Move by Lisa Wheeler, and his own Turtle Rex and Hotel Deep: Light Verse from Dark Water. He lives in Cottage Grove, Oregon.

I really enjoyed reading this book to my 3 year old and 6 year old children. I initially checked it out at the library, but liked it so much that I had to come to Amazon and buy it. The rhymes are very clever, the subject matter is interesting to children, and the book is fun to read. Books that teach and entertain are what every parent wants I think.

I am an elementary school teacher, and when I read this book I could immediately see the wonderful factual information included. I created an extension activity for my unit on insects using Pest Fest as the basis. This book would also be a terrific springboard for a discussion of verbs, adjectives, adverbs, and taglines. Julia has such a great handle of children's lit. I would also recommend Dream Hop and Cha-Cha Chimps!
