5.0 out of 5 stars Simply delightful! I enjoy this one alot.
This one is a pure delight. Mizuki is one cute and sweet uke. Forced to live in hiding in his brother's company dormitory, the young Mizuki finds himself cared for by 5 gorgeous guys, who considers him their "cat pet". Mizuki quickly assumes the role, cleaning after the guys to repay them for their kindness while searching for a job. All the little scenes here as Mizuki...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply delightful! I enjoy this one alot., December 4, 2007

All the little scenes here as Mizuki assumes the "maid" role are so cute.

Mizuki finds himself falling for Toru, one of the 4 guys who share the same 4th floor of the dorm with his brother. Toru, with his own unhappy secret, is closed-up and has difficulty getting along with anyone but he soon opens up to the earnest Mizuki. I love their confrontation and slowly evolving sweet love. 7 years separate them and their physique is of course the tall gorgeous seme and cute uke but they complement each other so nicely.

The interaction among the guys is well done, the story line amusing, light and "angsy". The other 3 guys' and Mizuki's own brother's care for and protectiveness over Mizuki, bordering on possessiveness, is comical but sometimes the romantic side of me wish these guys will give the "poor" couple a break. When Mizuki gets a job at a "girlie" bar, the consequences are just hilarious as the guys rush to his side.

As for the artwork, it is gorgeous with pages after pages of beautiful guys. There may only be a few pages of explicit sex but believe me you won't miss the sex in this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Better Yaoi I've read, January 24, 2008
By

This review is from: Pet on Duty (Paperback)
I was a little worried that I wouldn't like this manga because although I like yaoi, I'm not a fan of the strict seme/uke roles and the occasional borderline rape that seems common place. Pet on Duty is extremely tasteful thoug. Mizuki is adorable and sweet and has a fairly believable personality. Toru is the standard seme, aloof and stoic (accept with his uke, of course). One thing that is interesting about Toru is that he doesn't have the standard aggression that one often sees from the seme, and in fact it is Mizuki who is the one pushing for something more physical. The sex scenes are brief and as someone else has stated most of the manga is devoted to the plot. It makes the more sexual scenes that much better because they aren't happening every other page. The drawing is absolutely wonderful. As someone who has only read a handful of yaoi, I could tell each of the characters apart, remember their names, and almost always tell who was speaking (this is not the case in other mangas). If you're looking for a smutfest this is maybe not the book for you, but if you're a fan of other shounen ai/yaoi mangas like FAKE and prefer quality, Pet on Duty is the manga for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars One I definitely recommend, January 12, 2008
This review is from: Pet on Duty (Paperback)
When buying yaoi manga, you have to be careful since there's some really awful stuff out there *coughMenkuicough*. Anyway, there's two main things I look for--art and story. Pet on Duty has beautiful art, all the guys are hot/cute/pretty/whatever you want to say, and the story is decent. It could have been better, but it did stand out among others where the seme pushes himself on the uke and blah blah blah. It's not the most sex-filled manga, so if that's what you're looking for, you probably won't enjoy it as much. If you prefer a little build up to the relationship, this one is better for you!

5.0 out of 5 stars Put your trust in this title...it's a fun read!, July 12, 2008

I like to indulge in yaoi from time-to-time, but usually I find it too campy or bland (or predictable) in plot to digest to the point of annoyance. So when I wanted to get a good boy's love manga into my library I surfed the reviews and decided to place my bet on this one. This was a pleasant surprise and purchase. The main character is extremely 'uke' in some areas and surprisingly NOT in others. I think other readers will find the few personality twists in this book enjoyably addictive. The rest of the cast in this book are funny to read about with Mizuki and Toru being a bittersweet combination. Even the guys from the upper-level dorms are hilarious in the few bits that they're shown involving owning cats in the place.

The story is dramatic, but still keeps a lot of light-hearted moments in it so that the relationship builds up realistically enough (given the fact that it's only one volume long). So you won't be investing a ton of time or money into this read. It's a fast-paced, cute, and hot little manga that's now being passed around to my other friends with "TWO THUMBS UP!!" as the overall response when returned. And my fellow readers are individuals who are into titles with strong character archetypes (Wallflower, Skip Beat, Princess Resurrection, etc...). In short, I think a great deal of individuals looking for a good yaoi manga to indulge in will find themselves satiated by PET ON DUTY.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice and sappy sweet, April 1, 2008
This review is from: Pet on Duty (Paperback)
Sometimes you want men who look like men and sometimes you might be in the mood for a cute uke. This one has the cutie uke, cat ears and all. Mizuki needs a place to stay so he lives with his brother in his dorm (seems like an apartment to me though, translation differences). He becomes the "Pet" of the floor with all of the floor mates bringing him gifts of food, one even gets him a cat toy. If you are looking for a sweet story with both parties knowing what they want (sort of) then this is for you. There are a few intimates kissing and groping scenes but nothing really graphic, even the one time near the end isn't really graphic either.

It is a very sweet story and I like the characters - but to be honest - not enough sex - only 1 sex scene and very little kissing, but like I said very sweet story.

First of all, i am just a newbie to this kind of reading materials. But oh boy am i glad to get my hands on this one. The storyline and the artist's works are well done and amazing. If you want to read something light yaoi but has a really wonderful story in it. I highly recommended Nase Yamato's Pet on Duty. Its definitely worth your money.

this manga has an adorable plot line. unlike many being produced over here, the smut is actually at a minimum and almost the entire book is devoted to the plot line. not that im against short stories or anything but sometimes the little stories are longer then the one you bought the managa for.

its well drawn, and like i said before just cute. no evil guys, every charachter is like an loving mother each with a fun personality to the main character that is just stubborn and cute.

I love this book. From the moment you being reading it to the final page of the story, it is something that you shouldn't miss! If you love Yaoi, cats, and hot guys you will not be disappointed! the main characters are loving, and sweet, but a bit odd, and sexy. making them the perfect fit for one another, and this book!
I hope you love this as much as I have!
