We've all heard stories about ghosts. Many of us may even have had one or two spectral spectacles ourselves. But we normally think of ghosts as the spirits of deceased humans. Now, ghost hunter and paranormal researcher Joshua P. Warren, author of "How To Hunt Ghosts," introduces us to animal encounters beyond the grave in "Pet Ghosts," an intriguing look at the various kinds of animal hauntings reported throughout history.

Warren tells us there are many different kinds of animal ghosts, from Elementals to Harbingers to Phantimals and more, and he explains how each differ, with examples of sightings for each category. But all, he tells us, are connected to energy, and the manipulation of energy that allows these entities to cross over from their worlds into ours.

We learn about animal ghosts from the past, as well as a number of more modern reports from people Warren himself performed investigations for. We even get an interesting glimpse into the author's own experience with a pet ghost, all of which add a nice personal touch to the otherwise journalistic approach the author takes. As an investigator, Warren excels at looking at the paranormal both through the eyes of someone who understands the importance of scientific standards, and as someone who also knows the impact of journalistic objectivity. Reading "Pet Ghosts," you get quite an education into the potential scientific basis for these experiences, including connections to quantum physics and the behavior of energy. At no time does Warren veer into mushy New Age territory, instead choosing to focus on how, with meticulous research and the right investigative tools, real paranormal researchers can utilize the scientific method as much as possible, even when dealing with the unknown.

Only when we start taking these experiences more seriously, from a scientific perspective, yet also maintaining an open mind, will we ever come to truly understand ghosts. What they are, where they come from... Warren takes his chosen field very seriously, yet allows for a sense of fun and humor that makes his writing as enjoyable as it is mind-expanding.

"Pet Ghosts" documents the deeper connections between humans and animals, and how those connections may last beyond the moment of death, just as they might with a human loved one. There are plenty of tools and techniques included for finding your own connection to a lost loved animal companion, as well as interviews with noted researchers in the field such as Nick Redfern, Brad Steiger and Loren Coleman.

By the way, one of the few "paranormal" encounters I can say that I, myself, have experienced, involved my cat Elvis, who passed on many years ago. For a long time afterwards, I continued to feel him jumping onto my bed late at night, as he always did while alive. Of course, when I would turn on the light and look, there was nothing there. Nothing but for an indentation in the quilt where a soft, warm body of a cat once used to rest. It seems Elvis never really did leave the building.

This talked more about how to hunt ghosts than actual animal encounters. I was expecting more stories about actual animal encounters. Talked about the different types of ghosts and big foot, ghosts in history and around the world. I was looking more for pet encounters when I bought this book. There are a few in here but not as many as I would have liked/thought there would be. Don't recommend if you are looking for pet stories, comfort, etc. Recommended more for ghost hunting techniques, explanations of ghost terms, etc. Author is a ghost hunter (paranormal researcher).

Joshua P. Warren's PET GHOSTS: ANIMAL ENCOUNTERS FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE includes not only the author's own experiences with his dog, but interviews animal experts and provides tools and techniques for finding and recording a pet's spirit. If humans can have ghosts - why not pets? PET GHOSTS survey theory and provide insights on encounters.

I bought this book a few years ago and found it very interesting. I Just recently lost my dog and was looking for my copy and can't find it so thinking of purchasing a knew copy.

I was disappointed in this book. There is only one chapter on ghost pets the rest is about ghost hunting & legends, like Bigfoot. I didn't care about all that, I wanted to read other people's experiences w/ pet ghosts since I had just had some of my own. I was wondering how common this is. There is an interesting but disturbing chapter on the Christmas pig, though. That was fascinating & reinforced my vegetarian leanings. Cat Ghosts is a much better book.

The sad stories in the book bothered me in particular the parrot and pig story. The farmer got what he deserved. I don't know how people can make dinner out of pets. I wish I hadn't read it.

The book also touches on the subject of cryptids, such as Bigfoot and the Mothman, and provides information on our ghostly domestic pets, as well.

The core of the book is dedicated to personal experiences with phantom animals or "phantimals," as Warren calls them. Perhaps the most intriguing tale is about an African Grey parrot that, after death, provided his owner with some important information about his wife that changed the man's life and quite possibly saved him from years of turmoil. There are other compelling stories as well, such as the psychic horse and the pig that sought revenge over Christmas dinner, for which he was the main course.

In addition to serving as a well-researched document on spectral animals, the book also teaches valuable tools and techniques to use in one's own paranormal investigations.

To anyone interested in researching the paranormal, Pet Ghosts is a haunting, thought-provoking journey of possibilities, which will have you indulging in ghostly wonder long after you put the book down.

This book was a disapointment. I guess I was looking for a book with stories of pet ghosts. This got into theory of ghosts. I didn't enjoy this book.

The author of this book spends more time promoting himself and trying to make himself look smarter than he obviously is. I was expecting an educational but heartwarming book of lost loved pets but found myself dredging thru the first chapter, praying for something.I found this to be a hard read. Very self serving for the author and nothing else.

Well written book and the quality is as advertised by seller. Will buy from this source again
