Biography

The Radio Dept. was formed in 2001 by Johan Duncanson and Martin Carlberg. The name was stolen from an art pop band Johan had had with a couple of highschool friends during the later part of the 90s. (A little later bass player Lisa Carlberg and drummer Per Blomgren joined the band as they started rehearsing in the way bands so often do.) In 2002 swedish music magazine Sonic drew attention to the… Read more in Amazon's The Radio Dept. Store

Editorial Reviews

The Radio Department's second album finally available on vinyl! 180 gr. ''Pet Grief'' is a completely different album than the debut "Lesser matters". Still, you'll hear from the very first chord that you're listening to The Radio Dept. The mood is darker, more epic, grander and even more beautiful than ever. ''Pet Grief'' is the best songs Pet Shop Boys never wrote and the album you'd hoped My Bloody Valentine did after ''Loveless''. The key to what makes it so special, what makes it all sound so much like The Radio Dept. might be the ever present melancholy that permeate everything they write. --This text refers to the Vinyl edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW...what an awesome album, January 2, 2007
By
This review is from: Pet Grief (Audio CD)
Pet Grief is an incredible album from beginning to end. In my opinion, it's best listened to in one sitting...this album is truly an experience. For those who learned of the Radio Dept. from Marie Antoinette, this cd doesn't have the songs from Marie Antoinette on it, but if you liked those songs, you should like this album too. Beautiful hazy guitars, driving rhythms, electronic warmth, and gorgeously hidden vocals make this an album like no other. Very reminiscent of My Bloody Valentine and similar bands. This is just an all around wonderful piece of work. Pick it up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredible, March 27, 2007
This review is from: Pet Grief (Audio CD)
This is seriously one of the best albums I've heard in years and years...proof that big production on a record means absolutely nothing if you have brilliant songs. Packed so full with dripping, gorgeous melody that it almost makes you sick on it..like eating too much chocolate. Truly stunning, achingly beautifull and inspiring..whatever, I'm going for another listen and to float off into space!

5.0 out of 5 stars Welcome the Swedish Pop Invasion, June 2, 2006
This review is from: Pet Grief (Audio CD)
Shimmering melancholy guitars harken to the spirit of The Smiths but with a moody, blissed-out update. Fans of Radio Dept. won't be disappointed in what is perhaps their most ambitious album, grand and epic, almost a dozen solid songs. If you enjoy the bright, sometimes dolorous Swedish pop sound, you might want to check out Ronderlin, Wan Light, Jans Lekman, Montgolfier Brothers, and Blue Boy.
