Very Creative: for all animals!,
By Meghan Mulkerin "pruep3halliwell" (Michigan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pet Projects: The Animal Knits Bible (Paperback)
This book really tickled my fancy as I am a huge lover of animals and run a rescue, as well as being a crafty person and beginning knitters. There were tons of really neat, very innovative ideas for all kinds of different animals. Some projects that stood out were:
*A hutch curtain with carrot motif for your bunny *A wire knitted bird feeder *A turtle tent which can be for any small animal, and looks totally sweet! *koi flowers knitted from recyled plastic bags *a beautiful horse blanket *neat cat pillows *a rat/mouse mat for a cat (or a rat lover like me!) *a hidy house for a hamster or other small animal * adorable turtle plushie as seen on the cover My only qualms is I would have preferred a few more cat patterned items and maybe some items decorated with animal motifs for humans in there. I would definitely buy a part two with these items in it. Great book overall! I will update again after I have knitted some of the items! :)

A Must have for needle felters,
By
This review is from: Pet Projects: The Animal Knits Bible (Paperback)
This is a beautifully illustrated 144 page book titled; "Pet Projects" by Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne from "The Taunton Press". This books holds over two dozen projects for knitting and recycled felted wool sweaters requiring a little sewing. If you are a pet lover and adore dressing them up, then this book is a must have! You will be shocked at the adorable design Sally and Joanna came up with and these patterns are good for the beginning knitter too.
Some of the projects are: A variety of Dog Coats, finicky Cat Cushions, Lilly Pads, Horse Blanket, Mouse Mat, a variety of Dog Collars, Turtle Tent, Parakeets, Rosette, Eco-friendly Dog Coats, Hamster house, Knitted pets for your pet, Knitting Charts and instructions. You can create these precious items for the kings or the queens in your house or yard. Whatever pet you have you will find a project for them, even the Koi Fish. The pictures are charming and the patterns are understandable. These projects would make charming gifts for your pet lover family and friends.

This book has darling knitting projects for all sorts of pets. I made a ruffled collar for my daughter's dog. Easy and fun. There are patterns for horse blankets, turtle tents, kitty toys and dog sweaters that you do not have to knit but are made of old "people" sweaters. You can knit a bird cage cover. I find that my daughter and her friends spend a lot of money for pet gear and so hand-making something is rather appealing. They are glad to get (almost expect) a gift for the dog or cat from each other. It doesn't take long to knit a dog collar and the ones in the book are certainly unique. One neat item is a purple knitted turtle with a removeable shell. Fun.

I have made only one item from this book, the Mouse Mat for Cat. Although it is graded as "Easy", I have to say the instructions do not make it so. It appears someone either forgot to edit the information, or there was a ridiculous attempt to save page space. Here is an example of the exact wording: "Dec 1 st at each end of next row and then at each end of 2 foll 4th rows." What? In most knitting patterns, the pattern is laid out row by row to make it easy to follow. In a further example: "Dec 1 st at each end of 3 foll alt rows." I finally deciphered these "instructions" by attempting to count the rows in the photo of the completed project and wrote it out row-by-row, which still didn't come out exactly right. Close enough for this project. Beginners should be aware that the patterns marked Easy may not be as easy as you might expect, but could be made much easier by providing better directions.

A Few Different Ideas,

I was able to preview this book before buying it - it was the Hamster House that caught my eye! Something DIFFERENT! I've seen enough dog sweaters, horse or other pet blankets & pillows, that's all yadda, yadda, yadda. There are a couple of cute toys in here, but the Hamster House takes the cake! The book, itself, caught a lot of attention when I shared it with the knitting club I attend every week, the photos are very nicely done.

Some really cute and different ideas in this book. Not your typical knitting book. You can make something for your dog, cat, turtle, horse, rabbit, parakeet and hamster. Wonderful photography and some nice charts in the back of the book. I really like the creativity of the authors Sally Muir and Joanna Osborne. I already own another of their knitting books and look forward to buying more of them.

This is a nice addition to my collection of "working" books. Some very nice projects; blanket, tent, many sweaters, collar add-ons. Well written directions, easy to follow.
