This product is everything it claims to be. My 16+ year-old cat started having problems defecating and it got to the point where I thought he would have to be put down. The meds the vet prescribed worked for awhile but the longer time went on the more trouble he was having and the less effective they became. I did extensive research on the internet and ran across this product. At such a reasonable price I figured it was worth a try. That was almost one year ago and my cat has been as regular as clock work since starting this product. Amazon offers it on auto-ship which makes re-ordering a breeze and locks me in to a lower price. I can't say enough about how effective this product has worked for my cat.UPDATE: For those having trouble administering this to a cat, I give my cat the entire pill at once instead of the 1/2 pill twice a day. My cat has been getting it like this each day since I started using it about 3 years ago and it continues to work extremely well for him. Granted it is a large pill but he's used to it and does not seem to mind. Hope this helps.

My cat is 20 and he just doesn't move it the way he used to. I have tried Krystalose, Lactulose, Benefiber, Metamucil (psyllium husks) and Miralax, but none compare to the effectiveness of this product. I have to mix the contents of these capsules in food or in Lacutlose or water and squirt it into the cat's mouth. Obviously it is bitter and he drools and gets really mad when I use it in a syringe. I also tried it in food, but he can definitely tell, and he won't eat the food. A conundrum. The product is perfect, but the capsules are too big to launch into his mounth, and the taste horrifies him. I must say that the PetAlive website has helped me try to find a way to deal with this. There has just not been a way to get it down him so I only use it when he hasn't pooped for 4-5 days. I so wish that this came in a liquid gel capsule! So for now, I am using Krystalose and Lactulose and Benefiber or Metamucil and still trying to figure out the proper dosage. If you have a dog, use this. If you have a cat, be prepared for a little tiff trying to dose it.

The product says to mix a half capsule twice a day into food. I did this, and my cat refused to eat for two whole days. I tried different foods, treats. Nothing happening. I tried to wait her out, thinking, "How bad can it be?" Well, I mixed less than half a capsule with tuna, and tasted it myself. It was horrible, and it took me forever to get the taste out of my mouth. Sort of tastes like arugula. This product may work, but it is essentially useless for cats and small dogs in its present format. If you are giving a whole capsule to a medium/large dog, you'll be fine with some turkey bacon or something wrapped around it.
