5.0 out of 5 stars Great harness!
I had seen these harnesses elsewhere and they were more expensive. We have a (now) 30 lb. dog but got it when she was about 18-20 lbs. It was a little heavy and bulky for her at that point and I did not want to cut the straps until I knew how big she was going to be. It is easy to take on/off and keeps her at the right distance from the front seat (she can make it far...

I was really excited to get a harness that would allow for latching to the anchors in our van. We bought the harness and used it on a road trip. I was VERY disappointed. Even though the harness was tightened and properly fitted to our dog, any time she moved too much, the harness buckles would end up twisting so that they were on her lower sides and not her back. She could then move enough to slip a leg out. She also managed to somehow loosen the harness several times. On the trip back, we used the harness connected directly to the seatbelt, instead of using the latch. The harness again twisted around her body and loosened slightly, but she wasn't able to slip a leg out.

I really like that this harness is built of high quality materials, and is seemingly strong enough to actually restrain the dog in the event of a crash (unlike some other harnesses that look like they'd break instantly). However, having to constantly stop to readjust the harness or tighten it was a big pain, and it wasn't doing a very good job of keeping the dog restrained. I think they need to redesign this so that the heaviest part (the buckles) isn't on the dog's back, because the weight of them seems to drag the harness around to the sides of the dog's body.

I had seen these harnesses elsewhere and they were more expensive. We have a (now) 30 lb. dog but got it when she was about 18-20 lbs. It was a little heavy and bulky for her at that point and I did not want to cut the straps until I knew how big she was going to be. It is easy to take on/off and keeps her at the right distance from the front seat (she can make it far enough to lay her head 1/2 way on our seat rest). She is great in the car, but at times it does get tangled and turned around abit, so we have to readjust it. We have tried it attached to the seat belt and also clipping it to the "babyseat latches). It seems to get less tangled if it is attached to the seat belt. The higher you are able to attach it, the better it seems work without twisting. Dog does not mind it, easy to use, great quality and perfect for our needs.

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect, November 1, 2011

Great system, and it makes me feel more secure than a crate would.

My only real complaint is the rubber or plastic piece in the front that the straps cross through. It is not made well and will eventually break. Once that happens, you only recourse is to buy a whole new harness. it's a drag, but we were able to get 7 months of use out of the first one, which is pretty good mileage.

This is the only harness I know of that uses the substantial seat-belt straps. I trust my dog's life to this product. If we were to get rear-ended, he might have a little bruising. If he were in a crate in the "way-back" section of my SUV and we were to get rear-ended, he would be crushed. There's no viable alternative to this, as far as I can tell.

4.0 out of 5 stars Keeping the Pet Buckle Harness in Place, October 2, 2011

We put a single stitch in the plastic diamond (where the straps cross) to custom fit this for our dogs. You can cut out the stitch to resize if needed but it keeps the straps positioned for safety. Because the buckles slap around when walking, our dogs were very happy using this as a walking harness. Hope this helps because it was a good car harness.

2.0 out of 5 stars Great concept but has major design flaw, July 5, 2011

I chose this seat belt for my 90lb lab after reading some amazing reviews about it and learning that it's the first of its kind to be crash tested. The belt itself and the connectors are the same quality as seat belts found in cars. While my dog is very strong, he is a very calm rider in the car. This belt was mainly intended to provide him with the same type of safety I provide myself and the rest of my family when we buckle up.
We've been using this belt for about 2 years, and the entire thing is intact - with the exception of the FLIMSY PLASTIC "X" PIECE - where the straps cross over the chest. This piece slid frequently, and is made of thin, flimsy plastic which began ripping about a year ago and finally broke recently. This is really such a shame because this belt is otherwise really great. Why they couldn't make this one part out of better material is beyond me.
Whatever you decide - please get a belt for your dog!! You just never know what could happen when you're on the road. Whether your dog is big or small, a seat belt could save your furry pal.

3.0 out of 5 stars Purchased as a Gift my brother's Airedale. My brother thinks it is too heavy, March 3, 2011

I purchased this harness for my brother's Airedale to keep him safer in the car/truck. My brother thinks it is too heavy and asked me to return it. I thought it sounded like a good product. It is heavy because it needs to be in order to act like a seat belt.

2.0 out of 5 stars does not stay in place, January 9, 2011

I got this seat belt for a medium sized dog. The one good thing about it is that the quality looks and feels up to the same standards as a regular car seat belt. The problem is that the buckles are supposed to rest on top of the dogs back when secured and because they are heavy, they slide down the dogs side making the harness loose on one side and tight on the other. I have tried making the belts tighter to the point where it seems uncomfortable for the dog and they still don't stay in place. Another minor issue is that the tether is also so long that my dog can climb half way to the front seat from the back before it restrains her even when it is adjusted to it's shortest length. I am looking for a replacement that has a better harness design.
**Update: I got the kurgo trufit to replace this product and it fits my dog much better.**

4.0 out of 5 stars Very secure, December 24, 2010

This seat belt harness and tether is well made and provides restraint for my pet without limiting his movements dramatically inside the vehicle. Two problems keep it from being easy to use: 1. The release buttons are extremely tough to use. They require pushing between thumb and fingers in an awkward position when the item is on the pet. If they were placed so so the work could be divided between the opposing thumb/fingers or hand fingers (on the sides of the locking mechanism) then releasing wouldn't be so difficult (painful for me). 2. Also, the locks are very heavy. Perhaps that is necessary for the sturdiness of the product, but if you have a smaller dog (under 50 pounds), I think it would be too much. My dog doesn't mind it once it is on but he is 60 pounds. The tether is great as it securely slips onto the vehicle's child seat anchor.
